TN Curriculum Standards

5.01 Identify major events, people, and patterns in Tennessee, United States, and world history.

Anticipatory Set/Focus

I want you to think about how much do you know about Presidents Day and what two presidents it is based on (ABK, RRL). One means that you know nothing about it and ten means that you know just about all that there is to know about it. Now, I want you to form a line at the front of the room according to your number (IAL). Who can tell me what two main presidents we celebrate Presidents Day for? [Pair students up with one high and one low working toward the middle]. Today, we are going to be working on the internet to find out more about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln (LL).

Instruction

Assign each pair a computer and place the link to the webpage on the board. Tell them that one person will navigate the computer and one person will write the information for Washington then they will switch roles when researching Lincoln. Give students 2 scavenger hunt sheets. Before letting the students begin, use the desktop viewer to help the students find their first fact using the resources to show them how to navigate around the web quest. Ask to see if students have questions. Walk behind students to help them if needed. After the students have completed both sheets using the resources on the web quest, they will raise their hand and get them checked and will be given a Venn Diagram sheet and a comparison report.

Closure

Learning Verbalized: If I asked you to line up in front of the class again raise your hand if you would be closer to ten than you were before?

Take up scavenger hunt, Venn Diagram, and comparison report for assessment.
