Community initiative demonstrates the power of regular physical activity

CITY, ONTARIO DATE: Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce the risk of more than 25 chronic conditions, including coronary heart disease, hypertension, breast cancer, colon cancer, Type 2 diabetes and osteoporosis. Yet despite that positive association, Canadians could stand to make physical activity a greater part of their lives, as the majority of the population sits for more than four hours a day.

That’s why (INSERT COMMUNITY OR ORGANIZATIONAL NAME) is making moves with their NAME OF EVENT/PROGRAM.

(INSERT QUOTE FROM ORGANIZATION’S SPOKESPERSON- PURPOSE OF EVENT/WHY PEOPLE SHOULD COME OUT ETC.). PROVIDE MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE EVENT INCLUDING A CALL TO ACTION.

THE EVENT/PROGRAM is just one way ORGANIZATION is promoting physical activity in the community. To encourage the community to get moving all year long, ORGANIZATION is pleased to have the support of PARC (Physical Activity Resource Centre). Managed by Ophea, PARC’s Don’t Skip Out Toolkit provides a multi-faceted suite of communication pieces to support physical activity promoters in encouraging individuals across Ontario to be physically active.

“PARC’s goal is to encourage Ontarians to get more physical activity in their everyday lives – we simply spend too much time sitting,” says (Chris Markham, Ophea C.E.O. and Executive Director). “The Don’t Skip Out Toolkit encourages ongoing promotion of physical activity because we know that to reap the optimal benefits of physical activity, it needs to be a sustained habit, just like brushing your teeth.”

Don’t Skip Out focuses on the importance of making physical activity a priority, despite how busy people are. The Don’t Skip Out Toolkit consists of a variety of resource materials available in English and French such as; posters, communications templates, messaging and postcards.

The hope is that through events and programming like NAME OF EVENT/PROGRAM, and by sharing PARC’s Don’t Skip Out materials, community members will get the message to make activity a part of their daily routine!
