District105E We Serve

Fellow Lions,

The holiday season at Skegness may be drawing to a close but the excitement at Skegness Lions Club is building towards next year and the District Convention. The foundations are laid and everything is coming together nicely.

Those of you who are coming for the weekend will be accommodated on Butlins Holiday Centre in their “Silver Rooms” and for those of you who imagine Butlins as it was when you were young – forget it, they have moved well and truly into the 21st Century with all the facilities of a cruise ship but without the sea! Suffice it to say there is only one surviving original chalet and that is now a listed building.

The existing Silver “rooms” reserved for Lions Convention are in a block and are either on ground or first floor. These Silver rooms can actually accommodate 4 persons with a double and a twin bedroom, so you may consider bringing family or friends with you – so long as they are over 18 as it is an adult only weekend. There are also a limited number of disabled-friendly rooms so please indicate your needs on the booking form Accommodation charges are per couple as opposed per room and cover bed & breakfast. There is no housekeeping although towels are provided. There is a limited amount of single accommodation but as this will be in a normal silver room it is obviously more economic to club together with someone in the same position

Meals will be provided at “Coast Restaurant” which is close to Royal Arthur Centre on the opposite side to the rooms. Don’t worry- a map of the centre will be enclosed in your welcome pack. On the subject of meals we are breaking with tradition in that the Friday evening meal is not at a fixed time. You can eat at any time to suit you up to 7.30pm. in “Coast” and then go on to the ceilidh in Royal Arthur centre.

In another break with tradition and in view of the changing demographics of Lions we are not organising a partners event – they have the whole resort at their fingertips and may also consider the Spa. More information on this last item will be available on booking. Please complete a booking form even if you are only attending Convention itself. Butlins security need to know and it will make it easier for our Credentials Officer.

Finally, on behalf of Skegness Lions Club, may I give you a hearty invitation to Convention 2017 and say that we are all looking forward to seeing you at Butlins Holiday Centre.
