Job Description

Position Title: Facility Monitor

Reports To: Recreation Coordinator


General Function

Under the general direction of the Recreation Coordinator or the on-duty Recreation Manager when the Recreation Coordinator is not present, the Facility Monitor provides excellent customer service through maintaining Campus Recreation Facilities and being available to members for general direction and questions.


Job Requirements (Include education, experience and specific competencies)

Ø  Current University at Albany student

Ø  FWS eligible

Ø  Excellent human relation skills and communication skills

Ø  Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the University at Albany Campus Recreation

Ø  Previous experience (minimum one year) in the fitness/ customer service field preferred

Ø  Current CPR certification preferred

Principal Responsibilities:

Ø  Report to and work the duration of assigned shift or find appropriate substitute

Ø  Pleasantly welcome all patrons to Campus Recreation facilities, scanning membership cards, and assisting patrons with directions/ tours.

Ø  Provide information to members as needed via telephone or in person, in a prompt and courteous manner

Ø  Ensure each person using the facility is a member or program participant; scan cards of each member

Ø  Supervise the Campus Recreation facilities, enforcing policies and procedures, as well as assisting members, as needed, by being physically present in the assigned Campus Recreation facility

Ø  Clean and maintain all Campus Recreation facilities on a regular basis- specific focus on Fitness Center

Ø  Promptly report all unsafe conditions and concerns to on-duty Recreation Manager

Ø  Apprise Recreation Coordinator with any issues regarding facilities, patrons, or staffing

Ø  All other duties, as assigned

The satisfactory performance of the incumbent will result in consistent, high quality Campus Recreation facilities and programs that is key to member attraction and retention

Physical Requirements

This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking,

hearing, and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors, and may require occasional

travel to the various locations on the University at Albany Campus. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
