Competent permanent way designer with over 38 years experience.

Experienced in:-

·  most types of S&C design, (bullhead, flatbottom, inclined, vertical & RT60). This includes conceptual and outline design through to full detail design.

·  Conversant with relevant Network Rail’s Group & Company standards.

·  Various alignment design methods (Hallade, regression analysis using InRail).

·  Track layout and S&C design using:-

Ø  CAD designs (Microstation/Inrail/SelectCad [Rail])

Permanent Way Engineer at Channel Tunnel Rail Link Ltd (formerly Union Railways), the government company charged with the design of the high speed rail link from St. Pancras to the Channel Tunnel.

Currently seconded from Channel Tunnel Rail Link Ltd to Rail Link Engineering as Senior Permanent Way Design Engineer working on all parts of the high speed link but with particular reference to the design of St Pancras track layout, plus, initial design work at all CTRL interfaces with Railtrack infrastructure (Ashford, Northfleet/Ebbsfleet, Dagenham, Dollands Moor/Folkestone [Eurotunnel Terminal])
EMPLOYMENT

Aug. 96-Dec 2004 Senior Permanent Way Design Engineer, Rail Link Engineering (on secondment from Channel Tunnel Rail Link Limited)

Member of design teams for St Pancras, Dagenham, Ebbsfleet, Ashford and Dollands Moor, giving specialist advice on Network Rail Switch and Crossing designs. Calculations and advice regarding clearances to structures from swept envelopes of coaching stock. Design of track alignments and Switch and Crossing work including some non-standard designs. Responsible for inputting geometry details of Railtrack turnouts into InRail.

1992-Aug. 1996 Permanent Way Engineer, Union Railways Limited

Preparation of CTRL design standards, development of design options, design validation and specialist advice on switch and crossing design and Railway practice to Consultants. Represented Railtrack at UIC meetings on High Speed Track Maintenance.

1979-1992 Assistant Permanent Way Design Engineer, CEDAC, British Rail (Network Sth East)

Involved in the design of layouts for major projects and S&C renewals including many non-standard designs requiring special baseplates and blocks. Checking of design drawings and signing off.

Ensured all design drawings were forwarded to manufacturers in time during the extreme workload generated by (i) the trackwork alterations for Channel Tunnel (Waterloo, North Pole Depot, Dollands Moor Freight Yard, Stewarts Lane Chord etc.) and (ii) layout alterations required for Networker trains (London Bridge, Slade Green Depot etc.).

Management of design section including training of graduates/junior staff.

1966-1979 Senior Technical Officer, British Rail, Liverpool Street Division, Stratford

All aspects of permanent way surveys, scheming, realignment of curves and straights, detail design, levelling, estimating, setting out and installation.

Close liaison with other railway departments - Overhead Line Electrification Engineers and Signal &Telecommunication Engineers.
