- Welcome
- Review of afterschool program offerings
-Mrs. Daniels, parent of Kindergarten student requested to know more about the After school opportunities for students at specific grade levels. The principal went through the different club opportunities for Walker including: Art, Music, Drama, Lego, Chess, Sign Language etc.
-The concern is that there are limited opportunities for students in the lower grades (K-2)
-The principal explained that this is due to the long day for students and trying to limit those opportunities so that they have time to play outside.
-It was asked to explore maybe one or two more things for lower grade students
- Discussion of SPLOST renovation and impact on Walker
-The passing of SPLOST was noted as CT Walker was a part of the SPLOST project
-President asked what the plan was for K-5 program at Walker. Had heard that Walker was going to phase out Middle School
-Principal explained that it would be a long term phase out but that the specific plans were still being determined and that school council’s input would be a part of that process
-Magnet school selection this year will determine numbers for Middle school
- lower grades would not be affected
-Council encouraged principal to keep updated on plans and to communicate to all parents about the process
- Updates on Renovations
-It was encouraged by council that playground renovations take high priority in next renovation
-Principal informed that the current renovation is looking for a solution to the draining issue. Most of the work will be done during the summer, as it can’t be completed with students using the playground
-Council encouraged the exploration of new equipment for the playground
- Tutoring Program
-Principal discussed the use of Iready, Milestones, and probation data to determine students enrolled in the Title I tutoring program.
