General Objective

The purpose of this component is to provide an opportunity for instructional personnel to gain knowledge and skills directly related to their positions in the work world. Upon successful completion of the component, participants will be able to plan and implement "real world of work" activities and concepts into their classrooms.

Specific Objectives

Upon completion of this component, participants will be able to:

  1. Design work experience objectives cooperatively with an employer addressing the knowledge and skills to be acquired during the approved work experience project.
  2. Describe current practices, policies, and procedures used in the work place.
  3. Describe job opportunities students may expect in the near future within the given work area.
  4. Document successful work, with pay, outside the educational sector but directly related to an area on their professional certificate.

Description of Activities

This component is designed to afford educators the opportunity to update their knowledge and skills by working in a paid position in a non-educational setting. Individual projects must be accepted and approved in advance by a TEC Council sub-committee with input from the appropriate county level supervisor. Self-employment activities do not qualify for this component. Employers must hold the proper occupational or business license issued by an authorized local or state agency. Participants must keep a daily log of activities which will be signed by the employer verifying its content accuracy. Points will be awarded at the ratio of one per two hours of employment work, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 30 points available upon successful completion of the project. The component may be used for the maximum points only once in a certificate's validity period.

Evaluation of Participants
