Kevin T. Merriman, a partner with the firm, concentrates his practice in insurance law, handling a broad range commercial, professional and surplus/excess lines issues, providing coverage analysis and representing litigants in complex coverage disputes including: advertising injury, additional insured, bad faith/extra-contractual, employment practices, public entity, construction defect, environmental and mass tort, and primary/excess disputes. Mr. Merriman also represents litigants in allocation, contribution and cost-recovery litigation. He currently represents a Fortune 500 company in multi-party litigation regarding coverage for nationwide environmental and asbestos-related claims, and in related bankruptcy proceedings involving the formation of a Section 524(g) trust.

Mr. Merriman lectures and writes extensively on insurance law issues. He is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America Trial Lawyer Honorary Society, and is founding chair of the Insurance Litigation Institute of America. He also is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), where he has been active in the Insurance Law Committee, serving as chair of its publications committee from 2006-07. Mr. Merriman also is a member of the New York State Bar Association's Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section, which presented him with its Young Lawyers Award for outstanding contribution to the practice of insurance law in January 2002. Mr. Merriman possesses an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and is listed in Best Lawyers in America (Insurance Law). He was named to Buffalo Law Journal's/Business First's Who's Who in Law, and selected for inclusion in New York Super Lawyers—Upstate and Corporate Counsel Editions.

Mr. Merriman participates in a blog, National Insurance Law Journal (www.insurancelawforum.com), designed to facilitate discussion and an exchange of ideas and information among insurance industry professionals, risk managers, attorneys, policyholders, students, and others with an interest in the development of American insurance law. Members of the forum include prominent attorneys from several jurisdictions who concentrate their practice in insurance and bad faith law and litigation.

Mr. Merriman received his Juris Doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from Cornell University.
