A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE BENEDICT COLLEGE “TIGERS” WOMENS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH MAURICE BAILEY AND HIS STAFF FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND TO WISH THEM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young women to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing athletic talents; and
Whereas, to be a champion in basketball, all members of the team and coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that the Benedict College “Tigers” recently compiled a 1613 overall record and a 129 record in the SIAC Conference; and
Whereas, Senior Forward, Kim Cue, was an All SIAC First Team Selection and was also named the SIAC Tournament Team Most Valuable Player; and
Whereas, Freshman Center, Christy Yusef, received the SIAC Tournament Sportsmanship Award and was named to the SIAC All Tournament Team; and
Whereas, Senior Guard, Tina Hayes, was named First Team All Academic Team and received the All SIAC Hustle Award and Junior Forward, Shauna Armstrong, was also named to the All SIAC Tournament Team; and
Whereas, both Senior Guard, Vanessa Wilson, and Junior Guard, Dionne Chandler, were named to the Second Team All Academic Team, rounding out an exceptional, awardwinning team; and
Whereas, this impressive level of competition could not have been accomplished without the leadership and guidance of Head Coach Maurice Bailey, who received the SIAC Outstanding Tournament Coach of the Year Award in his first year of coaching the team; and
Whereas, the members of this outstanding team are Vanessa Wilson, Tina Hayes, Dionne Chandler, Lashon McCoulley, Clarissa Cross, Kim Cue, Rosa Coleman, Lynn Lyburd, Christy Yusef, Shaunna Armstrong, Cindy Gonzalez, and Dianna Muhammed; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly commend these fine young women and especially Head Coach Maurice Bailey, along with his coaching staff, on their team spirit, enthusiasm, and their extraordinary achievements. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Benedict College “Tigers” Womens Basketball Team and Head Coach Maurice Bailey and his staff, for an exceptional season and wish them continued success in the future.
