Template for successfully profiling research

Identify collaborative research to profile

·  Outline a budget for such an event

·  Engage local regional authorities, Economic development agencies etc... encourage cash and in-kind support through sponsoring of venues and hospitality, personalities etc…

·  Identify key personnel within research to be speakers

·  Identify a potential ‘personality’ or ‘audience-drawing’ speaker – relevant to the research being profiled (this is not necessary but certainly encourages the numbers attending) e.g. for Greening Waipara – we had a highly regarded Wine writer from the Listner magazine which gave us the added value of prospective ‘copy’ too.

·  Meeting to decide outcomes desired, programme *content and schedule, interaction required to achieve outcomes (e.g. break out groups with facilitators required?) *development of invitations, identify each research partners target audience

·  Build a list of potential audience – contact relevant organizations that can help identify and build this list to receive invitations. E.g. Waipara Greening – North Canty EDA and Waipara Wine growers association supported the invitations being distributed. For SLURI – FAR, Selwyn EDA, ECAN and Regional Farming contractors association all contributed to ensure that people using the local soils had the opportunity hear about this research. Always include appropriate Media.

·  Produce and distribute invitations as a PDF by email, follow up a week later with a phone call to encourage attendance

·  Confirm numbers for catering etc..

·  GOOD LUCK!
