THE BARI CUP 2017 –ANNUAL RLC INTER-UNIT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT WNG O

  1. General. The Bari Cup Hockey Festival is one of the largest RLC inter-unit sports competitions and one of only a few that allows mixed gender teams to participate. This year will be the 70th anniversary of the Bari Cup Hockey Festival and it will take place over three days (Wed 5to Fri 7 Jul 17 inclusive) preceding the Corps Open Day (8 Jul 17). The tournament will take place at the Army Hockey Centre, Aldershot.
  2. Participation. All regiments within the RLC are invited to enter the tournament. Team entries[1] and entrance fees (£50 per team)are to be received no later than 19 May 17. Units may enter 1 or 2teams of up to 10 players in each, with a minimum of 1 female player and a maximum of 2 non-RLC players per team. Players are not allowed to swap between teams once the tournament has started.
  3. Timings. Units must ensure they are ready to play from 0900 on Wed 5 Jul 17. Team captains are to attend the tournament briefing at 0830 on Wed 5 Jul 17.
  4. Tournament Details.
  5. Direction. Comprehensive direction will be issued on 29 May 17 to all participating teams/units. This will include detail on the schedule of play, rules, kit requirements etc.
  1. Accommodation. Team captains (unit hockey officers) should make accommodation arrangements well in advance based on the dates issued within this warning order. The central accommodation booking service (CABS) form can be found on our MOSS site here.
  2. VIPs/Visits. The RLC Hockey Club welcomes all commanding officers (or suitable representatives) of participating teams to a buffet lunch on the final day of the tournament. Comd 104X (President RLC Hockey) will be presenting prizes, along with a civilian hockey VIP. A confirmed list of other RLC VIPs will be promulgated closer to the date; alignment with the Corps Open Day suggests significant attendance. Prior notification to the undersigned of any visits outside of the final day would be appreciated.
  1. Trophies. Winners of silverware at the 2016 iteration of the Bari Cup are kindly requested to return their trophy to the RLC Hockey Club (c/o QM’s Dept 10QOGLR) by 23 Jun 17. Alternatively, trophies can be returned to the undersigned at team registration but this must be confirmed before 23 Jun 17. Units with trophies to return:
  1. The Bari Cup. 17 Port & Maritime Regiment RLC.
  2. The Kirby Bowl. 9 Regiment RLC.
  3. The Festival Shield. 3 Regiment RLC.
  4. The Veterans Stick. 4 Regiment RLC.
  1. Risk. The RLC HC will provide a ‘safe environment’ within which hockey can be enjoyed. There are, however, some risks which cannot be removed;[2] these risks will be reduced to ALARP[3] through effective coaching and officiating. A copy of the risk assessment will be displayed within the Army Hockey Pavilion and all team captains will be briefed on the critical safety points to ensure they are best equipped to provide the ‘safe person’. Any unsafe conduct will be dealt with immediately; reckless behaviour will result in no further participation for the individual at fault, and where appropriate, their chain of command will be informed.
