RESEARCH INTERESTS
High interest in ecological studies and development of integrated pest management for insect pests of tropical crops with special interest in the use of biopesticides, biological control and Semiochemical-mediated behaviour in insect control.
Newly completed research works on fruit flies
- Monitoring the incidence and population dynamics of fruit flies in different varieties of
mango and estimation of damage.
- An investigation into the identification and spread of an invasive fruit fly Bactrocera invadens on
mango in Nigeria.
- Managing fruit fly populations in cucumber by staking, trapping and insecticide applications.
On going Research projects on fruit flies:
- Studies on the species diversity, relative abundance and spread of Bactrocera invadens on citrus, mango, guava, curcubits and other alternative hosts in Nigeria.
- Use of bait sprays in the control of fruit fly Bactrocera invadens on citrus - guard row application as
decoy
- Mass trapping of Bactrocera invadens on mango using locally made traps with brewery wastes.
- Field evaluation of watermelon fruit fly population dynamics and their control with natural and
synthetic insecticides.
