DESCALING AND CLEANING SALT HR

DESCRIPTION

The descaling – and cleaning salt HR is used for electrolytic degreasing and cleaning of steel and cast iron. HR solutions are strongly alkaline and free of cyanide. Its cleaning effect is excellent, even slight film rust can be removed.

In combination with the preceeding pickling or treatment with acid cleaner concentrate K, based on hydrochloric or sulphuric acid, scale or rust can reliably be removed.

An exclusive treatment in the cleaning salt HR hardly attack the surfaces of the work pieces of steel and cast iron. High alloy steel may be attacked by anodic treatment. The stripping effect is uniform and must be considered possibly.

BATH MAKE – UP

Make-Up per 100 litres 10 – 25 kg HR

Make – Up prescription Fill the working tank to approx. 4/5 with tap water, dissolve the salt in small amounts under good stirring. Ensuing fill up with water.

Attention : Strong heating up ! Salt and bath solution are highly corrosive. Wear goggles and protecting clothes and observe the safety measures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Density ( 20 0 C ) 10,0 kg/100 l : 1,08 g/cm3

20,0 kg/100 l : 1,16 g/cm3

25,0 kg/100 l : 1,20 g/cm3

Temperature 20 – 60 o C, preferably 40-50O C

At higher concentrations the temperature of the degreaser should not drop below 25o C during breaks, since otherwise a part of the salt crystallizes.

Current density Rack electroplating : 10 - 15 A/dm2

Barrel electroplating : 1 - 2 A/dm2

Voltage The voltage is largely depending on the installation – and working conditions.

For rack parts this should be at least 8 V and

For barrel parts at least 12 V

Exposition time 1 – 10 min. preferably 1-3 min.

Reversal Usually for degreasing the pieces are connected anodically. However, for rust removal it can be worked alternately cathodically/anodically. The reversing cycles come to 20 – 30 seconds. Start with the cathodic phase and end with the anodic one.

Agitation An agitation of the pieces is absolutely recommended.

MAINTENANCE

Nominal values Since HR can be made-up with different concentrations, according to its application, the nominal working values should be fixed immediately at new making-up by determination of the density or controlled, resp. fixed by a volumetric analysis.

Determination of density For determination of density a small amount of the electrolyte will be taken out (approx. 100 ml in a graduated cylinder), cooled down to standard temperature of the spindle and then measured.

Volumetric analysis On request we put the required analysis prescription with pleasure at your disposal.

Reinforcement The quantity of salt which is lacking until to nominal value, will be reinforced with descaling-and cleaning salt HR.

For raising the density by 0.01 g/cm3 the addition of approx. 0.8 kg per 100 l descaling-and cleaning salt HR is required.

In case that the electrolyte does not degrease blamelessly anymore, for all the permanent maintenance of the nominal values, it is exhausted and must be replaced by a new bath make-up.

ATTENTION

The addition of other chemicals than indicated in this technical data sheet may cause disturbance and have a negative influence on the electrolyte and the quality of the deposits.

WASTE WATER

The descaling-and cleaning salt HR does not contain any organic complexing agent, in condition as delivered. The watery solution reacts strongly alkaline.

Therefore rinse water and concentrates have to be disposed of in conformity with the legal regulations.

These operating instructions are based on laboratory values and practical experiences. We have however no influence on the precise and conscientious use of our products.
