Class Description:

This is a physical activity class. The class is intended to teach advance workout programs and lifting techniques as well as safe spotting techniques.

Class Objective:

The student will learn and be required to set up weight lifting programs. Proper forms and techniques will be taught. Proper “spotting” techniques will be taught and used to enhance safety while lifting.

Proper Lifting Techniques / Instructor demonstration and class participation
Proper Spotting Techniques / Instructor demonstration and class participation
Identification of proper exercise for individual muscle groups / Through use of weight training logs and lecture
Increase in strength and completion of goals / Through weight logs and strength test at beginning and end of semester

Required Class Materials:

Appropriate attire for weight training is required. Bring towel if needed. A spiral note book or an actual weight training log book is needed. Other weight lifting materials such as gloves, wrist wraps, or knee braces are allowed. Belt will not be needed.

Materials not allowed:

Street clothing

Open toed shoes

Excessive jewelry

Chalk

Personal headsets (ex: ipod,mp3,cd players)

Course book “Strength Training Anatomy” By Frederic Delavier is required and can be purchased at the college book store.

Attendance:

This is a training class where your improvement depends greatly on your attendance and enthusiastic participation. A strong work ethic is a must. If circumstances arise that will require you to miss a class please notify the instructor ahead of time. A short essay may be assigned to cover the missed time. More that 3 unexcused absences will result is a “W” grade.

Grading:

A passing grade will be based on:

1. Significant one rep max improvement

2. Training log

3. Attendance

4. Final exam will be measuring Physical improvement from pre-measurement.
