An exciting opportunity in Community Housing.

The Organisation
The Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust is a newly created Not For Profit organisation established to address social housing needs in Christchurch. The Trust will commence by taking over the management of the existing housing portfolio of the Christchurch City Council. This is the second largest housing portfolio in New Zealand with around 2300 homes housing 2400 tenants. The Trust has a vision to increase housing stock and engage with other agencies to play an active role in developing a vibrant social housing community in Christchurch.

The Role
The Chief Executive will complete the establishment of the new community housing provider and recruit theirsenior leadership team. The appointee will be expected to establish systems and processes that achieve a smooth transition and will deliver excellent service to tenants and community stakeholders. Leading and growing an organisation that deals with tenants' hopes and needs requires a passion for people and communities, combined with sound, pragmatic commercial capabilities.The role will provide an exciting challenge for the right candidate and a great opportunity to make a difference and stand out in this sector.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Chair and the Board
  • Establishing a new organisation
  • Participating in strategic planning
  • Reporting on the financial and operational performance of the Trust
  • Direct oversight of all commercial aspects of the property and assets, including new and innovative social housing projects
  • Leadership of a high performing staff team creating an agile and responsive culture
  • Achieving operational targets including occupancy, tenant satisfaction and community engagement
  • Raising the awareness of Ōtautahi Community Housing, and promoting other agencies involved in the Community Housing sector

About you

Essential characteristics

  • An absolute belief in the role of community housing
  • Drive and passion to make a difference, helping to create a culture where “people are at the heart of everything we do”
  • A proven track record of managing organisational change to achieve great community outcomes
  • A sincere listener who is articulate and a persuasive communicator, ableto effectively engage with community stakeholders
  • Evidence of strategic leadership and operational excellence
  • Experience reporting to and working closely with a governance group.

Additionally it is preferable, but not essential, that you have

• Contemporary knowledge of the social and affordable housing sector
