MCAS Alternate Assessment (MCAS-Alt)
Fall 2017 Training for Educators and Administrators
EDUCATORS: Weeks 1 and 2 (8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.):
A series of half-day training sessions presented for teachers regarding the 2018 MCAS-Alt for students with significant disabilities.
Teachers are encouraged to bring a fully-charged laptop or tablet to the training. Digital materials will be provided on a flash drive for review during these sessions.
Morning sessions will include the following presentations:
¨ “Introduction to MCAS-Alt” for teachers conducting the MCAS-Alt for the first time, or those who have not attended a state-sponsored training for three or more years
¨ “Updates for 2018 MCAS-Alt” for teachers with recent experience conducting the MCAS-Alt;
PLUS: three mini-sessions on topics related to MCAS-Alt
¨ “High School Competency” and “Grade-Level” Portfolios for students who are working on grade-level curriculum standards (beginning at approximately 11:15 a.m.)
ADMINISTRATORS: Week 2 only (1:30–3:00 p.m.):
Half-day afternoon training sessions for administrators, including those who supervise teachers submitting the MCAS-Alt, will cover the following topics:
· 2018 Next-Generation MCAS Overview, including online testing, accessibility and accommodations, and high school testing;
· MCAS-Alt: Purposes, Participation Guidelines, Statewide Results and Trends;
· How to Support Teachers Conducting the MCAS-Alt;
· Features of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) that may affect students with disabilities

How to Register:
Registration is conducted on the MCAS Service Center website. Click on “MCAS Alternate Assessment,” then “Registration for Training.” Register early since attendance is limited at each site. Please complete your registration by September 22. Directions are provided on the registration site. This flyer is also available online. If you have difficulty registering, please contact the MCAS Service Center at 800-737-5103.
