Positions Available: Training Year 2015-16

Positions: MSW interns

1. Inglewood Adult Services: One position. Team meetings occur on Mondays and would require your attendance. FIELD WORK REQUIRED.

The Adult Services program provides services to adults (age 18 and above) with severe and persistent mental illness, which has often led to frequent hospitalizations and/or homelessness. Diagnoses include Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and substance abuse. MSW students work on multidisciplinary teams to provide service to clients in both the clinic and in the field in settings such as the client’s home, housing facility, or on the street. The focus of students’ work is to help clients remain in the community and achieve the highest possible level of functioning. MSW students are involved in conducting initial assessments, individual and group therapy, and case management.

2. Inglewood Child/Family Services: Two positions. Spanish speaking preferred by not required. Must be available to work at least one evening per week until 8 pm.

3. Taper Child/Family Services: One position. Spanish speaking preferred. Must be available to work at least one evening per week until 8 pm.

4. Metro Child/Family Services: One position. Spanish speaking required. Must be available to work at least one evening per week until 8 pm.

The Child/Family Services programs provide specialized services to children and adolescents (age 4-17). While the majority of clients are diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorders, clients also present with mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and pervasive developmental disorders. A significant number of clients are children who have been victims of abuse, neglect, or trauma. MSW students are involved in initial assessments as well as individual, family and group therapy.

5. Jump Street Crisis Residential House: One position.

Jump Street is a crisis residential treatment center, providing a 28-day program for adults experiencing serious problems due to mental illnesses. Residents may be homeless or at risk of homelessness. The program’s goal is to provide stabilization for clients, which includes counseling, psychiatric evaluation and treatment, case management, and referral to longer term housing and treatment programs in the community. The MSW student conducts initial assessments, provides short term, crisis oriented counseling, case management, group facilitation, and participates in program planning.

6. Orange County Suicide Survivor Support Services: One position. Spanish speaking preferred.

This program provides a wide array of support services to people who have lost someone to suicide, such as individual and family bereavement counseling, support group facilitation and case management. The program also provides community outreach in the form of suicide prevention presentations and trainings throughout Orange County. The MSW student would be involved in providing individual and family counseling, facilitation of a support group, and involvement in community outreach programs.

Positions: MFT Trainees

2. Glendale Adult Services: One position. Armenian speaking helpful, but not required. FIELD WORK REQUIRED. Must be available to work on Mondays and Fridays to participate in team meetings.

MFT students are involved in conducting intake assessments as well as individual, family and group therapy.

General Information:

*Stipend. A $5000 per year stipend is available for students who are fluent in Spanish or Armenian and are able to use it in a therapeutic setting. To qualify, you will be required to take a brief
language test.

*Beatrice Stern Intern Scholarship Award: A $5,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student pursuing a master’s degree as a marriage and family therapist or a master’s in social work. The scholarship is awarded at the start of the training year. An application is provided to students already accepted into the training program.

*Supervision. One hour of weekly individual clinical supervision with a licensed clinical supervisor is provided. Two hours of group supervision with a licensed clinical supervisor is provided bi-weekly. Live supervision or audio/visual recordings of at least 4 sessions are required over the course of
the year.

*Time off. Students are given a total of 10 days of time off, in addition to agency holidays.
