JOB TITLE: Mini Bus Driver

JOB LOCATION: City of Salford

RESPONSIBLE TO: Minibus Co-ordinator

HOURS OF WORK: 25 Hours per week

REMUNERATION: £16,580 pa fte (pro-rata)

1.  MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To drive and operate Age UK Salford’s minibus which is primarily used in the carriage of older people who may have age or mobility related conditions together with other driving duties as required by the organisation

To provide safe, efficient and reliable minibus transport for older people in Salford and to take responsibility for the comfort, care and safety of customers whilst travelling in our organisation’s vehicle

To be part of a dynamic team working to provide flexible, reliable and high quality services to older people in Salford and to help ensure that the minibus service offered by Age UK Salford is actively and effectively promoted across the city

To provide a range of driving, equipment operation and interpersonal skills

2.  MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1  To take responsibility for the transportation of passengers with a range of age or mobility related conditions and to be responsible for their comfort, care and safety whilst on their journey.

2.2  To ensure a high standard of customer service is provided at all times and to recognise the needs of the customer and deal with them in a sensitive manner.

2.3  To attend Age UK Salford’s Humphrey Booth Day Centre, Critchley House and other pick up points at agreed shift times and participate in a handover detailing pickup and return times.

2.4  To assist passengers who are wheelchair users on and off the minibus by accompanying them on the tail-lift and helping them either to transfer to/from seat or manoeuvring wheelchair user to wheelchair restraint position and fixing restraints. To ensure equipment is used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. The tail- lift must only be operated by the driver.

2.5  To take responsibility for appropriate daily vehicle checks, routine maintenance, safe driving and compliance with Road Traffic Acts and Local Authority byelaws and emergency procedures and to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy at all times.

2.6  To ensure that all passenger access equipment is serviceable, ensure all passenger WTORS are serviceable and available in sufficient numbers for types of passengers to be carried.

2.7  To be responsible for the correct and safe fitting of all passenger safety equipment and WTORS.

2.8  Ensure that the vehicle is loaded correctly at all times with regard to maximum seating and wheelchair capacity.

2.9  To undertake health and safety and risk assessments of relevant activities and strictly adhere to Age UK Salford’s Confidentiality, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities policies.

2.10  In the event of an accident to check passengers for injury, reassure and calm them whilst awaiting assistance from the emergency services and to apply first aid as required.

2.11  To be responsible for the security of the vehicle and legitimate use of fuel

2.12  To ensure compliance with all relevant service standards, policies and procedures of Age UK Salford and to work within the ISO9001 framework.

3. Administration and Record Keeping

3.1 To strictly adhere to the driving rota.

3.2  To keep accurate records relating to Health and Safety and Risk Assessment.

3.3  To complete mileage sheets and daily vehicle checks in and timely and accurate manner

3.4 To accurately complete monitoring records as required by the Co-ordinator

5.  Marketing

5.1  To assist in the promotion and development of the Minibus Service by working with the Minibus Co-ordinator and Service Managers to increase income and raise awareness of this service.

5.2  To assist in the running of appropriate activities and outings.

6. Additional Responsibilities

6.1  To work collaboratively with other team members, external professionals and other key stakeholders to consistently deliver positive outcomes for those who use our services.

6.2  To attend regular supervision, relevant training courses and meetings as required by your line manager.

6.4 To work flexibly and cover holiday periods if necessary to meet service requirements.

7. General

7.1 To support promotional events, fundraising and other income generation events as deemed appropriate by the Chief Executive.

7.2 To carry out the above duties in accordances with Age UK’s policies and procedures.

7.5 Any such other appropriate duties as may be reasonably required by the organisation from time to time in the context of this job description.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

MINIBUS DRIVER

The following requirements will be assessed from a combination of information provided from the application form, panel interview process and references:

Experience and Qualifications / Essential / Desirable
At least 2 years previous experience in a relevant role
Relevant experience driving a large vehicle up to 16 passengers
Good geographical knowledge of Salford
Ability to implement routing information
