Description – Maintains computing environment by identifying system requirements; installing upgrades; monitoring system performance. Responsible for installing, maintaining and upgrading servers. Ensures the servers are backed up, and that the server data is secure from unauthorized access. Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Manages all activities related to the operations and maintenance of company computers and peripheral equipment. Establishes schedules and procedures for maximum utilization of the system. Analyzes operating instructions and user needs to establish operating procedures and best practices. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and upgrades computer hardware, software, personal computer networks, printers, and peripheral equipment. Provides recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisitions.

Duties –

  • Establishes system specifications by conferring with users; analyzing information.
  • Establishes system by executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of PC and server hardware, software, defining operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintains system performance by performing system monitoring; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating and system management systems; escalating application problems to vendor.
  • Secures system by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures; completing back-ups; maintaining documentation.
  • Upgrades system by conferring with vendors and services; testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.
  • Protects the integrity of Optimax information by employing up-to-date security and anti-virus programs, as well as network security applications and hardware.
  • Works toward centralizing and streamlining large-scale operations in order to manage efficiently.
  • Installs, configures and upgrades operating systems and software, using standard business and administrative packages; may modify specific applications for use in operational departments.
  • Installs, assembles and configures computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware.
  • Pulls cables and rewires or directs the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration.
  • Troubleshoots problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, e-mail, network and peripheral equipment problems; makes repairs and corrections where required.
  • Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data; maintains a centralized project tracking and trouble ticket system to facilitate exchange of information; implements solutions or notifies outsource providers as required.
  • Assists with the planning and research of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in online groups; maintaining certifications as required.

Requirements–

Equivalent to completion of two to four years of college-level coursework in computer science, information technology or a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above. Multi-tasking, On-Call, Server Knowledge, NetworkingKnowledge.

Prior IT experience in a manufacturing setting is a plus.
