Dear SSRL SIG Members,

Greetings! We hope this newsletter finds you well. Our newsletter editors, Tim Cleary and Pam Murphy, carefully timed its arrival in order to orient you to our SIG’s program offerings at the upcoming AERA conference in Denver. Thanks to our program chairs, Linda Bol and Srilata Bhattacharyya, and our panel of reviewers, we have another excellent program this year, complete with paper sessions, posters, roundtables, and a business meeting. We encourage you to attend as many as you can, and to introduce yourselves to us if we have not already met. The business meeting is a particularly good place to do that. Please join us at 6:15 on Sunday evening in room 712 of the Convention Center to engage in the business of the SIG and to enjoy a presentation developed by Dr. Barry Zimmerman. We hope to see you all there!

See you in Denver,

Drs. Heidi Andrade and Héfer Bembenutty

We would like to extend our thanks to the following SIG members who volunteered to review graduate student proposals:

Lori Aultman (Chair) Timothy Cleary Moon Heum-Cho

Roger Azevedo David Sacks Douglas Kauffman

In this section, we highlight all of the SSRL-sponsored sessions. There is a comprehensive and diverse array of SRL topics that will be addressed, including cutting-edge SRL assessment methods and intervention programs, use of sophisticated statistical packages to examine relationships among SRL processes, and considerations of multiple sources (student, teacher, parent) when examining SRL processes. In the listing below, an asterisk (*) denotes the presenter.

Of particular interest is Dr. Barry Zimmerman’s talk on the intentional and systematic integration of covert personal processes, behavioral performance, and social contexts during skill acquisition. This talk should prove to be informative and generative of excellent conversation.

We strongly encourage all SIG members to attend these sessions to support our membership and colleagues.
