Graduate Research Assistantshipsfor Graduate Studentsin

PhD Programs in Biomedical Sciences and Chemistry

Graduate research assistantshipsfor graduate students in PhD programs in Biomedical Sciences and in Chemistryare available atDr. X. Nancy Xu group at Old Dominion University. Research will involve: (i) isolation and characterization of membrane proteins; (ii) real-time monitoring of interaction of membrane proteins in living cells using state-of-art nanobiotechnology and single molecule detection; (iii) proteomic analysis of biomarkers using cutting-edge Mass Spectrometry; and (iv) development of novel single-molecule microscopy and spectroscopy and nanobiotechnology for chemical and biomedical research.

Detailed research plans and descriptions of our areas of interest are available at As a member of our research group, one will have full access to an array of modern instrumentation and facilities and have a variety of significant opportunities to engage forefront chemical and biomedical research.

Current graduate students in both PhD programsare strongly encouraged to apply. Please email a cover letter, curriculum vitae and unofficial transcripts to Dr. X. Nancy Xu at (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA 23529).

Prospective graduate students should submit their graduate applications as instructed by Office of Admission at Admission requirements for PhD programs in Biomedical Sciences (Biological Chemistry track) and in Chemistry are available at Both programs admit graduate students in both Spring and Fall semesters.

The University offers all kinds of financial aids. New students are typically supported by Teaching Assistantship for the first year. Then, they will have the opportunity to be considered for Research Assistantship (RA).Please contact our graduate program assistant (Ms. Valerie DeCosta, ), and attach the message to me, for any further questions.
