ELECTRONIC DIGITAL CONTROL SYSTEM (NEW 2009, Copied from Vendor’s Scope of Work)

Enclosure #1 contains all new power distribution, heating and cooling control components for all process line temperature control locations. This enclosure will be supplied ready to connect to the facility’s existing 380V 3Ph. power source and have terminal connections for all related heating and cooling zones. This enclosure will contain correctly sized zone fused over-current protection, Watlow RM series din rail mounted multi-zone temperature control processors, modular solid-state heat power relays (these replace the conventional failure prone mechanical contactors) and integrated zone current sensors. These current sensors eliminate the many analog meters located on the present heat panels by displaying individual zone current on the operator console screen. The enclosure will also contain the necessary invertors to supply the required 50Hz to properly power the barrel zone cooling fans. Provision will also be made to monitor 3 additional temperature points. (ie: melt, gearbox lube, coolant temperatures, etc.)

Enclosure #2 will contain all extrusion line motor and related control components. The contents will include a new digital Extruder Drive, new Melt Pump Drive (AC), cast roll stack drive control interface, haul-off drive interface and new motor starters with electronic overloads for all process motors. Space and system I/O expansion will be provided for relocation of recently purchased (AB servos) line drive components and for the process cut to length control system. All enclosure control status monitoring, operation and adjustment will be done via the new operator console screen. These control functions will include but not be limited to extruder speed / pressure control, melt pump speed / pressure control and line speed coordination with melt pump output. (Note: Melt Pressure Probe and Temperature Transducers are not provided.

The above 2 systems are being supplied in 2 separate enclosures to allow for staged installation and upgrade of the extrusion line. Each system will operate independent of the other. Interconnection of the 2 enclosures for control coordination will be accomplished by a single Ethernet cable connection.

The operator screen will be a web enabled 15” color touch-screen. The screen will be provided with an unlimited quantity tag license, all necessary operator screen content creation, detailed process related alarming, recipe management, process real-time trending and diagnostic / maintenance screens.

The web enabled screen will allow for observation of all line status and alarms from any facility computer station using a web browser (ie: Internet Explorer, etc.) once the screen is linked to the facility computer network via a standard Ethernet cable. If a VPN connection is provided to your facility, remote monitoring and service can be accomplished. The supplied operator screen will be able to have any individual screen content easily modified by TPS personnel with the use of a special software package. All editing and screen additions can be completed with a web browser. KCS will provide a backup copy of supplied screen application files and a software utility to allow easy transfer or storage of the operator screen program.
