Job Title:Community Education Officer

Main responsibilities of the role: To implement Cats Protection’s Education strategy within a defined region of the UK (central England and Wales), ensuring that Cats Protection’s messages are delivered effectively to existing and new audiences. The job holder will also be expected to gather management information on numbers of people reached with education activity, including demographic data and responses to calls for action.The person in this role will be expected to engage in education and awareness activities with audiences such as Education Authorities, Local Authorities, Social Work and Social Housing departments. .

Essential qualifications:

Main duties:

  1. Through the implementation of a programme of education activities, raise the profile, increase the presence and public understanding of Cats Protection within your region. Represent and promote the charity externally.
  1. Recruit, lead and manage volunteers into a regional team that can deliver education activities to a wide range of audiences.
  1. Create and develop links with local community groups.
  1. Implement the use of evaluation and effectiveness measurement tools, regularly reporting to the Education and Information Manager.
  1. Actively seek out new audiences, new methods of communicating and new creative cat welfare messages.
  1. Generate enthusiasm for the strategy amongst existing and new volunteers, ensuring a consistent quality of service is provided, and CP’s volunteering policies are followed
  1. Be aware of changing legislation/ economic and regional trends and respond accordingly to update messages and methods used by the national team.
  1. Arrange talks and events with local statutory bodies and wider community groups to help them develop their own thinking and policies on cat welfare.
  1. Work with Branches, the Regional Development Manager and Regional Development Assistant
  1. Plan and attend exhibitions and events promoting the work and objectives of CP.

11.Be a proactive member of the Communicationsteam, providing feedback, ideas and recommendations in order to increase the effectiveness of the department’s work.

12. To attend team and CP meetings and events, as required.

13.To undertake induction and ongoing training to keep skills and knowledge up to date as required by CP.

In common with all posts, ensure compliance with Cats Protection’s policies and procedures, statutory obligations and best practice; and undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Director of Communications. This job description may be subject to review in the light of future organisational developments and in consultation with the post holder.

Conditions of service

Salary and package

The salary for this role will be £25,850.40+ £1,000 home worker allowanceper year pro rata’d.

Salaries are reviewed annually on 1st June. There is no contractual entitlement to any increase in basic salary.

Home office set up and company vehicle will be provided

Hours of work

The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week

Because of the nature of the role, the post holder may be required to work additional hours to ensure the proper performance of the function which may mean that from time to time the post holder may be required to work in excess of normal business hours. No overtime is payable but with the prior approval of the Chief Executive the post holder will be entitled to time off in lieu as detailed in the Employee Handbook

Place of work

This role is based at your home address. We would anticipate that the successful candidate would live in the region specified.

During the course of your employment you may be required to travel to various locations in the U.K. on CP business. Travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed as detailed in the Employee Handbook.

Annual leave

In addition to bank and public holidays the annual leave entitlement is 25 days annual leave rising by one day for each completed year of employment up to a maximum of five extra days. The holiday year runs from 1st January to 31st December.

Pension

Cats Protection provides access to a personal pension scheme to which it contributes six elevenths of the gross premium. Cats Protection’s contribution is limited to 6% of your salary. You will be eligible to join the scheme after six months service and you will then have the option to contract out of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme (SERPS).

Other benefits

Cats Protection also offers free medical insurance after completion of probationary period and three months service (whichever is later) and death in service benefit of 4 times annual salary from commencement.

Other information

An appointment is made subject to a satisfactory medical questionnaire and references. Permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of three months.

Cats Protection has a restricted smoking policy. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas during lunch breaks and not in CP cars.
