Q: When will the merger take place?

A: We hope to merge on 1st April 2017

Q: Why are you merging?

A: The NHS is required to evolve to deliver a consistent quality of care whilst becoming more efficient. Locally, the development of “Better Care Together” requires strong Primary Care Organisations to deliver care. The practices believe that by merging, we will become more sustainable organisations and will be able to respond well to the increasing national pressure on General Practice and the NHS and will continue to deliver high quality services to the communities that we serve.

Q: Who will be the doctors?

A: Patient will be able to see a wide range of clinicians including, Doctors, Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Paramedics, Assistant Practitioners and Health Care Assistants. Our Doctor workforce will be as follows:

Q: Will I still be able to see the GP of my choice?

A: We aim to maintain Doctor-Patient relationships and therefore, yes, you will still be able to see your preferred GP. Patients will have more choice of clinicians, but will also be able to maintain relationships with the clinicians that know them best.

Q: What difference will this make to me as a patient?

A: We will be able to offer a wider range of skills and services to our patients by combining the experience and expertise of our doctors and nurses.

Q: Will it be easier to get an appointment?

A: We are currently undertaking a comprehensive review of how our appointment systems works. You will still be able to book online, via telephone or in person. We are hoping that we will be able to provide an increased range of appointment times, including early morning, evening and weekend appointments, to increase convenience and satisfaction.

Q: Will I still have online access?

A: Yes, online services will continue as normal.

Q: Will the Practice opening hours change?

A: Lancaster Medical Practice will provide Extended Hours Services, outside of the usual surgery hours. This will allow patients from all four existing practices who have difficulty attending during normal opening hours the option of an evening or Saturday appointment.

Q: How will we be kept informed of the merger and changes that are taking place?

A: Regular updates and information will be displayed in the surgeries, on our practice websites and via social medical and newsletters in practice.

Q: Will I have to re-register as a patient?

A: No, your registration will be automatically transferred to Lancaster Medical Practice.

Q: What if I want to leave the practice?

A: We hope that you will want to stay with us. If so, you do not need to do anything as you are already registered. However we understand that some patients may decide to move to another practice. If this is the case, simply contact the practice you want to move to and ask them to register you as a patient. They will ask you to fill in a form and we will then transfer your medical records to them promptly.
