Ovum IT’sInformation Management research practice advises IT user organisations, independent software vendors (ISVs) and service providers on business intelligence (BI), data integration, enterprise content management, search and collaboration technologies and the business and market opportunities that surround them. Our focus combines a deep knowledge of relevant technologies and a strong appreciation of the strategic imperatives of information management to corporate IT, enterprise software vendors and the service providers and enterprises that implement these technologies.

BI technologies, in particular, have consistently topped CIO agendas for the past several years. BI is now foremost on the minds of enterprises looking to move from a survival to revival mode. The BI market is subsequently vibrant and dynamic and Ovum’s Information Management practice is looking to ramp up its research in this area by recruiting a full-time analyst to its team.

This senior analyst role in Ovum’s team will focus on the market for BI and related technologies and services. In this role you will:

  • Possess a strong technical and market understanding of BI software tools and applications
  • Have at least five years experience working either as an industry analyst, or with an IT vendor or as a senior practitioner.
  • Write insightful analysis which gives our clients unique insight into emerging opportunities resulting from the evolution of BI applications and technologies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a thought leader in the BI software industry who is unafraid to take a stand on major issues backed by up-to-date sector knowledge.
  • Design, conductand manage research and analysis, including in-depth discussions with senior industry figures.
  • Network with senior executives and clients, creating your own footprint in the industry.
  • Be able to present comfortably in front of a range of audiences – from sales people to senior executives within software suppliers and user organisations.
  • Be commercially aware and confidently support our sales teams in meetings with existing and potential customers through your subject matter expertise.
  • Manage, execute and deliver custom consulting projects on behalf of clients.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Strong writing skills: You must write well. You will be comfortable writing both short, highly opinionated pieces, and longer, more discursive analyses. You will have a strong ability to structure complex threads of argument and to explain the complex in simple terms.
  • Intellectual excellence: Successful candidates will have a strong track record of academic, commercial or otherwise influential achievement in devices and platforms, or related areas. At a minimum, you will be educated to bachelor’s degree level.
  • Strong teamworking skills: Candidates will be part of a team of analysts with joint responsibility for developing our research. You will frequently work as part of a team on both analysis and consulting projects.
  • Broad experience and knowledge: Candidates must have substantial experience working for a telecoms operator, IT service provider, communications technology vendor, systems integrator, another analyst firm or publisher, or a user ICT team. Previous work experience must have provided you with deep knowledge of the ICT industry as a whole.
