BOY SCOUT TROOP #8056 – Traditional Club Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Yuma

(Traditional club means sponsored by community organization not a church group. I learned something new!)

Scout Mother/Club Liaison and Optimist Laurina Bergqvist Troop #8056 Flag Raising Ceremony at Lake Pleasant

presents Boy Scout Troop #8056 Charter to Club Co-President Ramon Arias

Troop #8056 at Turf Soaring event / campout near Lake Pleasant

“I just wanted to give you an update on the scout troop sponsored by OCOY. Troop 8056 had their second campout this past weekend. They went to learn about glider planes and each take their first flight with Turf Soaring near Lake Pleasant. All six boy scouts got to fly and loved it. They camped out for 2 nights, with 6 adults and 2 siblings. The boys cooked the camp food, except for the scoutmaster treat on Friday night, chili and peach cobbler. Each morning they held a flag ceremony as they raised the flags on the flag poles there at the airport. When not busy with the glider planes, the scouts were working on first aid and knife/ax skills. All the boys earned their Totin Chip and Fireman Chit, which entitles them to carry sharp tools and knives, as well as start fires. The first four boys earned their Second Class rank, while one boy earned his Tenderfoot. The sixth boy is very close to earning Tenderfoot and was encouraged to finish his remaining requirements to reach that rank. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed a team feeling”

And if you weren’t a Boy Scout and were interested in the steps/ranks of scouting –

The ranks go from

Tenderfoot

Second Class

First Class

Star scout

Life scout

Eagle Scout

The first 3 ranks are about learning skills. The last 3 ranks are earning merit badges and practicing leadership. The chip and chit are extra awards to enable the boys to use sharp objects and start fires. Those 2 awards are like "licenses" that boys can carry in their wallets to show they have been trained to use knives, saws, axes and fire starters.
