First Grade is getting excited about our field trip to the Zoo on Thursday, November 8, 2012. We will leave the school at 9:15 and return at 1:00. This is one of our favorite trips. We welcome all our parent chaperones on this trip. Please send all forms and monies to the school by Friday October 26, 2013.

Our curriculum focus for the second nine weeks in reading will be finding key ideas and details in literature and informational text. We will also identify who is telling the story at various points in a text. We will be comparing and contrasting the adventures and experiences of characters in stories. The students will identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic. (in illustrations, descriptions, or procedures)

Second Grade News

Conferences will be coming up soon so check the newsletter or watch for information from your child’s teacher. Students have been busy learning about place value to the thousands, the Earth, maps and globes, and reading.

Student Council News

Florosa Student Council is sponsoring its first spirit day of this school year! We will celebrate sports of all kinds by having a “Sports Day” October 31. Students may wear T-Shirts of their favorite football team, high school, college, or professional team. We know it is football “season”, however, we don’t want to leave out other sports. Students may celebrate their “favorite sport” by wearing a jersey, softball uniform, workout suit, cheer outfit, etc.No football helmets, cleats, or pads please.Gymnastic suitswill be allowed as long as a cover-up top and shorts are worn, so team shirts, jackets, or hats might be best. We hope the students at Florosa enjoy the first spirit day. At the same time, we encourage all students to make good choices about what is worn so that learning is not disrupted and Florosa students are allowed to continue to have spirit days once a month.

In other Student Council news, representatives and alternates are eligible to run for the upcoming Student Council election. Candidates will be taping their speeches on October 30thin the media center and those speeches will then be aired following the RTV show October 31st. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will vote for their favorite candidates on Friday, November 2. Representatives or alternates wishing to run for a student council office may pick up an application in room 519, Ms. Morgan’s room.

Student Council hopes to see all you “sports fans” October 31!
