Greetings Graduate Students,

The University of Florida’s Institute of Black Culture (IBC) coordinates theJames E. Scott Black Student Leadership Conference(BSLC) each year with the goal of providing current and emerging student leaders with knowledge and skills that can help them become more effective leaders on campus and beyond. This year’s conference, the 11th annual, is scheduled to take place on February 2, 2013.

As one of the lead-off programs for the University of Florida’s extraordinary celebration of Black History Month, this year’s conference has adopted the theme, ReclaimingtheLegacy.From contemporary global and national leaders, to frequently overlooked community activists, there is a legacy of leadership throughout Black history. We hope to honor that tradition and continue to build on the legacy of Black leadership through this conference.

As a valued member of the community, we would like to invite you to participate in the upcoming conference. Your success, as well as your service and commitment to the community stands as an example of leadership, so the conference planning committee wanted to encourage you to participate in the conference. REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

About: The 11th Annual James E. Scott Black Student Leadership Conference is scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2013.

Purpose: The James E. Scott Black Student Leadership Conference (BSLC) provides current and emerging student leaders at the University of Florida with knowledge and skills that will help them become more effective leaders on campus and beyond.

Theme: From contemporary global and national leaders, to frequently overlooked community activists, there is a legacy of leadership throughout Black history. The James E. Scott Black Student Leadership Conference seeks to honor that tradition and reclaim the legacy of Black leadership. The theme for the 2013 BSLC is “Reclaiming the Legacy.”

Request for Proposals: The framework being used for the conference is a composite leadership framework intended to promote holistic leadership development and includes nine content areas: Communication, Ethics, Health and Wellness, Social Responsibility, Professional Development, Diversity, Foundations of Leadership, Group Dynamics, and Black Leadership. We are seeking submissions of workshops/presentations/lectures for inclusion in the conference. Submissions must be related to one of the nine content areas. The conference will include three concurrent workshop sessions with workshops scheduled for 45 or 90 minutes.

Deadline: The deadline to submit a workshop/presentation for consideration is Monday, January 18, 2013 by 5 PM.
