PRESS RELEASE

Endorsed by the Ministry of Commerce, P. R. China and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Foreign Economic Relations & Trade Commission, organized by China Optometric & Optical Association and China Light Industrial Corp. for Foreign Economic & Technical Cooperation, co-organized by Orient International Exhibition Co., Ltd, the 6th China (Shanghai) International Optics Fair – SIOF 2006 will grandly open on 22 – 24 February 2006 at the East & West Hall of the Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Centre. We are delighted to announce that the total exhibition space of SIOF 2006 expands from to over 36,000 m2! The constant growth of the show scale every year reveals that the Chinese optical market is growing more and more important to the overseas investors!

Shanghai is the financial hub of China with good infrastructure and transportation. The huge mobile population in Shanghai favors the marketing of products. Moreover, the increase of per capita consumption in Shanghai is pushing the sales of retail goods up especially on imported goods because most of the people can afford to buy expensive imported goods with better quality. Hence, Shanghai is treated as the best place of sales and publicizing commodities to China. That’s why there are 303 foreign corporations presenting about 404 international brands in the SIOF 2006, making the SIOF 2006 one of the optical fairs with the most famous international brands in Asia!

Being held in spring, the SIOF 2006 raises the curtain for global optical exhibitions of the year, betokening the vogue of 2006. Many brand new styles and designs of optical products will be outflanked and displayed during the fair. This year, machineries and materials become a new force that there is an increasing number of companies exhibiting these kinds of products in the fair. To a certain extent, it is influenced by the implementation of “Production License” in China. Local manufacturers who would like to sell their products in China should obtain the license. To meet the national standard, importing and installation of advanced production machinery and good quality materials is a prerequisite. Therefore, many foreign suppliers grasp this opportunity to sell their machines and materials to the Chinese manufacturers.

This year, there are over 710 domestic and international exhibitors from 20 countries & regions including China, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Israel, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Spain, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan Region, Thailand, UK and USA showing their latest and trendiest optical products to the worldwide buyers. There are 4 overseas pavilions, the group formed by SILMO Exhibition of France and National Pavilion of Italy organized by ANFAO (Italian Optical Goods Manufacturers’ Association), MIDO Exhibition and ICE (Italian Trade Commission) continue their participation with larger exhibition space; and Fukui Optical Industry Association of Japan join with their group of members again. The encouraging news is that German pavilion is making their debut appearance in our Shanghai Fair this year, showing the significance of the Chinese optical market!
