  • Physical Education – for life

afPE’s Corporate Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate the distinctive role of physical education in all children's and young people's learning, development and achievements
  1. Establish and sustain physical education at the heart of school life and whole-school development, through support for high quality learning and teaching; research; ethical leadership and politically informed advocacy and representation
  1. Raise awareness of physical education's contributions to public health and well-being and increase participation
  1. Play a leading role in the development of a workforce with the skills and qualities required to assure high quality physical education and sport in schools and in the wider community
  1. Provide high quality, professional, sustainable services for members and partners

Principles:

  • The awards will recognise achievement, profile good practice and celebrate success
  • The awards will be inclusive of the wider physical education profession
  • The awards will be made to those who have impacted directly or indirectly on young participants
  • There will be three categories of awards to reflect the breadth of influence or impact the recipient has made

Award for Professional Practice

To be awarded for making a difference at local level (For example in a school, HEI, LA, CSP)

Listed below are suggested key areas where nominees, worthy of receiving this Award, may have demonstrated expertise and impactin at least one area.

1.A final year specialist physical education student in a UK teaching institution

2. A Primary and/or Secondary teacher for providing and delivering a HQ physical education programme in their school

3. Any student who has completed a degree course in physical education or related area for all round academic excellence and physical accomplishment. There should be an element of research undertaken by the recipient of this award

4. An outstanding newcomer to the profession

5. A physical education teacher who introduces, leads or manages or provides numerous and diverse extra curricular activities.

6. A physical education teacher who works with gifted and talented young people and provides good and secure routes into NGBs.

7. A teacher working with SEND pupils who provides and delivers a HQ all round and diverse physical education programme

8. An adult supporting learning (ASL) for outstanding work either within or outside the curriculum

Award for Leadership & Influence

To be awarded for making a difference at regional/national level (For example in an afPE region/Home Country, networks of schools/HEIs/LAs, CSPs or Strategic Partner)

Listed below are suggested key areas where nominees, worthy of receiving this Award, may have demonstrated expertise and impact.

1. A person who has been responsible for significant development in physical education at regional/national level.

E.g. LA adviser, Civil Servant, Researcher, Strategic Lead etc.

2. A person who has contributed significantly in the field of scholarship and research

3. An award for someone who has significantly and consistently raised the national profile of physical education through the media

4.A person who has contributed significantly to development of the profession regionally/nationally through provision of High Quality professional learning including resources – e.g. trainer, writer, LA adviser etc

Honoured Member Award

To be awarded for making a difference at national and/or international level over a lengthy and sustained period of time

Listed below is the only category for which this award can be considered:

Outstanding and distinguished long service during which the recipient has contributed significantly to:

a. The work of the association at all levels and/or;

b.National/international development of physical education

Successful nominees will receive an item of engraved glasswareand a commemorative certificate which will be presented at the afPE National Conference on 5thJuly 2016.
