POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will represent the College’s interests by proper management and implementation of environmental, health and safety programs.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND GOALS

·  Perform regular inspections of emergency response equipment to maintain proper function, including: emergency shower/eyewash stations, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers.

·  Conduct regular safety inspections of workplace facilities and equipment.

·  Assist with hazardous materials management including chemical inventories and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

·  Help stage hazardous waste pickups and conduct regular inspections of waste accumulation areas. Requires HAZWOPER 24 Hour Operation level hour or greater certification with annual refreshers.

·  Assist with minor spill response and cleanup actions.

·  Direct the training of a variety of EH&S programs including: Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Hazard Communication, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Exposure Control, Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, Disaster Preparedness, and Emergency Response.

·  Direct the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire alarm, fire sprinkler and wet standpipe systems.

·  Direct with occupancy, egress and life safety issues associated with normal setups and special events.

·  Administer the EH&S program training documentation for all College employees.

·  Communicate with faculty, staff, administration and students regarding environmental, health and safety issues.

·  All other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

·  Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Industrial Hygiene or equivalent combination of experience and education.

·  HAZWOPER 24 Hour Operations Level or greater required or must be obtainable within 3 months of employment.

·  Minimum 2-year experience in related environment health field.

·  PC literate to include Microsoft Word and Excel.

·  Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication.

·  Customer service orientation required.

·  Accuracy and attention to detail a necessity.

·  Clear common sense response to emergencies.

·  Self-motivated and ability to work independently.

·  Moderate lifting requirements with a considerable amount of walking.

·  Able to pass a respiratory physical.

·  Must possess a valid CA driver’s license.

·  Must be able to maintain the College’s designated driver status.

·  Must be available to respond to emergency situations 24/7.

·  Exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
