6) Parent Involvement

·  Title I Meeting & Parent Workshops Held Each Year:

Last Year’s Elementary Parent Nights - Camp Read-a-Lot (SCE), Title I Science Night (MES), Jeopardy Jamboree (MES), and the Spring Parent Night (SCE)

·  Title I District Parent Policy – Distributed in Student Handbooks

·  Title I School Parent Involvement Policy – Distributed in Student Handbooks

·  Title I School/Parent Compact – Distributed by the Teachers at Parent-Teacher Conferences

·  Schoolwide Program Planning – Advisory Committee Provides Program Planning Input

7) Opportunities to Volunteer:

·  PTO will be sending volunteer sheets home. Volunteers are utilized in classrooms, for tutoring, and for special activities. Please know that there has been another change in the volunteer policies due to state regulations. All volunteers must obtain proper clearances ahead of time. All volunteers must also obtain a TB test. Please see the office for volunteer information and forms. All forms and information will also be posted in the Volunteer Section on the District’s website at http://scsd.schoolwires.net/domain/422.

8) Parents’ Rights under No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

·  Right to request the qualifications of your child’s teacher

·  Right to be notified if your child is taught for more than 4 consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified

·  Right to request opportunities for regular meetings with staff in order to make suggestions

·  Right to participate in decisions relating to the education of your child

·  Right to submit a written comment on the Title I Schoolwide Program Plan
