Job Description: Business Development Manager

Responsible to: / Assistant Director
Salary: / £24,472 to £27,924 depending on experience
Hours: / 35 per week
Annual Leave: / 25 days (30 days after 5 years)
Based: / Big Life HQ (some travel will be required)

Main Aims of the Post
To assist in the management of Business Development within Big Life group.
Building relationships, writing bids and providing support to source, secure and research opportunities.
To be an effective and collaborative member of the Business Development team including co-ordinating various procurement websites and managing relevant administration processes.
To produce successful tender proposals –based on good research and excellent communication with and support to colleagues across the group.
To provide management of the mobilisation of resources to support new and existing services across the group.

Main duties

  1. To oversee the administration of all tendering opportunities by establishing and managing all relevant tendering and bidding portals.

  1. Writing tenders based on instruction and detailed information from the groups experts and knowledge holders (normally service managers and Directors), referring back to them for editing and final approval, leading to increased success in winning contracts

  1. Project manage the completion of individual tender applications when appropriate, including:
  • Maintaining an awareness of contracts due for tender and taking responsibility for acquiring pre-qualification questionnaires and tender documentation
  • Negotiating contributions from other specialists and researchers and allocating appropriate deadlines for completion
  • Collating the input of disparate contributions to create a coherent and well structured final tender
  • Ensuring the timely submission of tenders and other proposals

  1. Being flexible so as to be available to support the tender submissions, including being available to support tender writing at peak times and meeting tight deadlines.

  1. Developing and maintaining a library of tender document templates to act as a reference point for other staff involved in the tendering process and to ensure a unified and consistent approach to proposals.

  1. To generate and maintain project plans and co-ordination/management of identified tendering opportunities.

  1. Organising of meetings with key senior managers across the group and facilitating cross group submissions for new work.

  1. To assist with strategic and market research for new opportunities in preparation for submitting tenders.

  1. To work with external consultants, co-ordinating bid preparations and act as a central source for collating information.

  1. To generate and maintain new service mobilisation plans, co-ordinating implementation with managers from the appropriate business area of the group.

  1. Produce quarterly tender reports for the Assistant Director and Leadership Team

  1. To represent Big Life at appropriate forums / meetings / conferences etc. acting as an ambassador for the company.

  1. Ability to develop and maintainstrong partnerships and link into local networks and forums

  1. Ensure confidentiality regarding staff, volunteers & service users.

  1. Attend appropriate training, and be receptive to new developments in services.

  1. Keep abreast of all changes within the organisational policies and procedures.

  1. Contribute to the yearly planning and development process including working to targets and reporting performance
