2nd Chance 4 Pets

This volunteer-run non-profit organization is established to reduce the number of pets relinquished and euthanized in shelters due to the death or incapacity of their human companions. Opportunities include assisting in the distribution of flyers for homeless pets, adoption fairs, various team and individual projects. Virtual opportunities and internships include writing and editing, internet research, program management and creative design. Volunteers must have excellent communication skills and be able to respond to email.

Academic Chess

Academic Chess is looking for volunteers to join us in our chess instruction activities on elementary school campuses in the Silicon Valley. Chess classes meet between the hours of 2PM to 5PM Monday thru Friday. We provide the instructional materials, and chess instructor classes to help our develop their teaching skills. We are a non-profit nurturing after-school enrichment organization that has taught in the Silicon Valley for the past 12 years.

Alum Rock Counseling Center- Mentoring program

The mentoring program provides an opportunity for students to share their positive experiences and help change the lives of young people living on the East Side of San Jose. Mentors are asked to commit to a Mentee for 1 academic year and spend 6-8 hours with Mentee on a monthly basis. Opportunities are also provided for group outings, individual outings, and attending events with your Mentee such as SF Giants, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Lawrence Hall of Science, Symphonies, San Jose Earth Quakes, Alcatraz Cruises and many more. ARCC Mentor Program can be applied toward College Courses, Experience in working with youth, and Community Service Hours.

American Diabetes Association - San Jose, CA

American Diabetes Association Community Outreach Program is seeking volunteers for the following opportunities: Become active/contributing members of our program planning committee for “Feria de Salud” (major health fair) and educational diabetes community programs on nutrition, obesity, vision, dental and foot care and tabling at selected health fairs. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula – Menlo Park

Digital Media Arts Assistant

Assist in workshops that educate youth on programming using Arduino and processing languages. Assist in developing and executing art projects using electronic components. It’s a 6-week Summer Program; June 21 – July 30. Volunteer needed either Monday mornings from 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or Thursday afternoons from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. and/or Friday evenings 4 p.m. – 7p.m.

Graphic Design Arts Educational Assistant

Volunteers will assist in training youth on Adobe graphic design production software (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and After effects). Also assist in supporting development and execution of youth work and with publicity of student work. It’s a 6-week Summer Program; June 21 – July 30. Volunteer needed either Tuesday mornings and/or afternoons 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 2-3:30 p.m.

Video Production Educational Assistant

Volunteers will assist in training youth on video production equipment (HD camera, tripod, external mic, flash recorder). Assist in supporting development and execution of youth video productions and with publicity and outreach of student films. It is a 6-week Summer program; June 21 – July 30. Volunteer needed either Wednesday evenings from 4:30-7 p.m. or Thursday evenings from 4:30-7p.m.

Woven Arts Assistant

The Volunteer will assist in instructing knitting, sewing, crochet at embroidery workshops and in pattern making. It is a 6-week Summer Program; June 21-July 30. Volunteer needed either Monday mornings from 10:30 – 1 p.m. or Friday mornings 10:30 – 1 p.m.

Summer Camp Counselor

The summer program will run from June 14th to July 30th. The half-day program (math, science, reading, and sports) lasts from 8AM-1PM, Monday through Friday. Instructors who cannot commit to the half-day program can opt for the Math Only option, from 8AM-11AM.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula– James Flood School Summer Academy Counselor

Lead a group of 15 to 20 students in CNG's summer academy, which will provide students in grades 4 through 8 with math and science enrichment as well as electives including various arts, Youth Community Service, and High School Prep. Program runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. from Monday – Friday June 28th –July 30th.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula – Redwood City Clubhouse Jr. Giants Baseball Coach

Practicing baseball with a team of 7 - 10 year-olds three weeks prior to the league and motivating them throughout the season. In this league, the score is not kept and a pitching machine is used. One of the biggest duties is to make this a fun and enriching experience for our young, budding baseball players.

California Community Partners for Youth

Provide community-based youth mentoring and life skills development focused on at-risk, under-performing and low-income youth in San Jose. CCPY's goal is to develop a self-sufficient network of integrated programs supported by schools, parents, teachers, mentors and community resources. Camp Campbell Outdoor Science School (YMCA Program)

You can volunteer as a cabin leader. Commit to volunteering one or more M-F week anytime throughout the school year to mentoring fifth- and six-grade students in an outdoor-ed program. Our program is residential meaning that you stay in cabin with the kids for the week. Includes a full day of training.

FE is a mentoring program advocating the need for college role models and the importance of promoting higher education to elementary students in underprivileged communities. CommUniverCity San José

CommUniverCity San José engages faculty, students and community partners to develop and sustain meaningful course-based service-learning opportunities that foster civic engagement among students and strengthen community connections among residents. CommUniverCity San José’s projects address education, community health and improvements to the neighborhood environment. These projects are based on priorities set by neighborhood residents, and are accomplished through collaboration with the Five Wounds / Brookwood Terrace Community, San José State University, and the City of San José. Internship opportunities exist for students in good academic standing who have strong leadership, planning and communication skills, demonstrate initiative, and are interested in working in a diverse, multicultural setting. Interns develop and lead neighborhood projects. Fluency in Spanish and English, and a minimum commitment of 100 hours for a full semester are preferred. CommUniverCity also offers volunteer opportunities for students who are passionate about helping others, committed to learning more about building strong communities, and thrive working in a collaborative environment. Volunteers work with different teams to implement neighborhood projects in the community.
