PAYMENT AMOUNTS:

The following breakdown provides the amounts that renewing members are required to pay for the different classes of membership:

1) ACTIVE/VOTING MEMBERS: $45.00

2) ASSOCIATE MEMBERS: $38.00

3) STUDENT MEMBERS: $30.00

Mentor Program Committee:

very much everyone who participated in our Mentoring Program Recruitment Survey!

Below is a summary of your responses:

50% and 34.6% of our respondents are very interested or somewhat interested in the Mentoring Program;

53.8% of respondents would like to participate in our program as a Mentor and 38.5% as a Mentee;

Among our respondents 65.4% employed as paralegals, including in: litigation (53.8%), corporate (30.8%), real estate and criminal law (26.9% and 23.1% respectively), administrative, trust/estates, intellectual property and banking (15.4% in each), insurance (11.5%), bankruptcy, labor and immigration (7.7% in each), family/matrimonial, employment, financial services, tax and securities/blue sky (3.8% in each). W didn’t have representatives in benefits and environmental law at the time of the survey.

Our respondents:

have 8+ years of experience as paralegals (42.3%);

23.1% of respondents are at mid-level (3-5 years) of their experience; and

23.1% of our respondents never worked as a paralegal;

23.1% of our respondents are students and 11.5% are paralegals changing practice areas;

Through the Mentoring Program, our respondents want to get: moral support (57.7%), help in finding first job (50%), help with resume/interview skills (38.5%), more information on continuing legal education (34.6%), help with school/work assignments (26.9%), more information on new areas of law/changing practices (26.9% each); and 15.4% answers were under the category “other” and combined school/work assignments and continuing legal education.

The ways of how to utilize the Mentoring Program were suggested as below:

42.3% would like to have one-on-one contacts between mentor and mentee;

30.8% prefers team/group contacts, and

26.9% prefers to have e-mail communications; and

Three of our respondents would like to utilize all thee options given.

In addition to answers to our questions, we received three (3) comments to the survey. All of them were positive and encouraging to work and implement the Program!

The Committee is working on developing of applications for our future mentors and mentees. The applications will be accessible through our website.

Our goal is to create a pool of mentors with the opportunity for mentees to choose mentors. Pairs will be matched based on practice area/interest and geographical location. To qualify as a mentor, a person must be a current active NYCPA member for at least six months and have been practicing as a paralegal for at least one year. In order to be paired with a mentor, a person must be a current active or student member of NYCPA.
