b. / Data management
Agency / No. of JJVV messages on the GTS in 2006 / Location of delayed-mode data
NOAA-SEAS / 12108 / NODC/AOML/SIO/CSIRO
c. / Major challenges and difficulties:
·  Funding decreases caused subsequent decreases in the number of supported (LDX/FRX) lines,
·  We have almost completed the transition from SEAS-IV to SEAS 2000 data acquisition software. There are two remaining vessels using the old software and transitioning those should be complete by 2nd quarter, 2007. The implication for the complete transition is that all SEAS XBT data transmitted from SOO to NOAA will be full resolution profiles and all data placed on the GTS by NOAA will be 2meter resolution profiles.
·  We have completed a real time transmission and quality control procedure for the thermosalinograph data collected on board the Explorer of the Seas.
·  We lost one vessel to ship traffic realignment plans. This particular ship participated in high and low density XBT sampling, atmospheric and oceanic carbon dioxide and thermosalinograph programs so it was a major loss to multiple programs within SOOP.
d. / Research / development / testing:
·  We are experimenting with Iridium satellite transmission protocols for thermosalinograph data collected with SEAS 2000. By the end of 2007 we expect to have two SOO transmitting TSG data in real time via Iridium.
·
e. / Other comments:
·  We continue to participate in collaborative programs with other institutions involved with XBT programs. Our contribution to the collaboration comes in the form of donating probes in exchange for management and ship greeting services. In particular we sent 324 probes to IRD/Noumea, 540 probes to IRD/Brest, 324 probes to Brazil, and 648 probes to Australia.
