Section B:-
1- (a-b) These were young Cathy’s words to Heathcliff when he discovered through
JosephCathy’s attack on Joseph’s precious bushes. Cathy persuaded Hareton to replace these
bushes with some from the grange. Heathcliff became angry as who gave them thepermission
to do this with something they didn’t own. Cathy confronted Heathcliff with what she knew
about Heathcliff taking their lands. She told Heathcliff also that she and Hareton became
friends so if Heathcliff attacked her Hareton would attack Heathcliff to defend her but
Hareton tried to calm her down as he wouldn’t attack Heathcliff as he considered him his
father and begged Heathcliff to leave her.
c) Heathcliff was very angry with Cathy and told her that she never had any property
and grabbed her from her hair and threatened her that she should never make him angry
anymore or he would kill her. He also threatened Hareton that if he took Cathy’s side,
Heathcliff would kick him outside the house where he should earn his living.
d) Cathy was naturally a courageous character as more than once she confronted
Heathcliff with what she knew about him as when he went to take her to Wuthering Heights
after her father’s death, she told him that he was a miserable person as he didn’t have anybody
to love him. What made her more courageous in this situation was that she thought that her
cousinHareton who became her friend would be on her side and would defend her.
e) Cathy was courageous and brave (evidence). Hareton was loyal to Heathcliff and loved
him as if he was his father (evidence).
2- (a –b-c) Heathcliff said such words as he was excited and eager to reach his heaven.
His heaven was to die and be with his beloved Old Catherine. In his last days Heathcliff felt
fed up from taking revenge and felt that it was tasteless though it was available for him to
continue his revenge on Hareton and Cathy who were totally under his control. He told Nelly
thatHareton reminded him of his former degradation
