Opened in January 1978 in a fully restored, listed warehouse from the 1780s, The Copenhagen Admiral Hotel now ranks as a four-star hotel of uncompromising Danish quality and international top class.

In 1978, the project to restore the old building received a diploma from Europa Nostra, an international organisation working to protect Europe’s cultural and natural heritage. Europa Nostra cited as its motivation for giving us the diploma: ‘this is a project that greatly contributes to the protection and enhancement of European architecture’.

The original granary with its rustic charm, raw brick walls, large brick arches and 200-year-old joists of Pomeranian pine sets the stage for modern hotel comfort in a league of its own. The entire interior has been custom designed for the hotel, a feat unparalleled in or outside Denmark. In short: Our hotel is an attraction in its own right.

The Admiral Hotel is located in an old warehouse from 1787. Since its construction, the building has been at the centre of amazing events. In 1801, the battle of Copenhagen raged just outside the warehouse windows. It was during the battle that Admiral Lord Nelson put his telescope to his blind eye to avoid seeing his superior’s signal to stop the charge. Today, the hotel is completely refurbished with respect for the original architecture and pine beams. This creates an unforgettable setting where past and present coalesce.

Restaurant:

Our hotel restaurant is called SALT and accommodates 110 diners. Its design and concept has been devised in close cooperation with world-renowned restaurant and hotel designers Conran & Partners. The London-based company has designed restaurants in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo. SALT’s cuisine has its origins in the modern Parisian brasseries. The plates show elegance and innovation with new, amazing taste combinations.

Although modern Scandinavian cuisine is the hallmark of the SALT restaurant, there is more than a hint of French inspiration in the meals created by chef Rasmus Møller Nielsen, where rustic raw ingredients and elegant international cuisine combine to form a higher synthesis. Every plate holds a surprise, an original composition of

traditional Danish raw produce spiced with gastronomic imagination. In addition, every three weeks, the restaurant presents a specially composed SALT menu from which guests can choose two, three or four courses.

Rooms:

An overnight stay at the Admiral Hotel is an experience in itself. No two rooms are exactly alike. The impressive rustic wooden beams give the rooms their own unique identity and warm ambience. The hotel interior too boasts a fascinating history. The solid teak furniture, custom designed for Admiral Hotel in cooperation with Trip Trap, makes the rooms much more than mere bedrooms. All furniture has teak gratings – or ship gratings. The teak gratings originate from shipbuilding, where they have been used for centuries to provide light below the decks of large sailing ships.

Our beds have custom-designed top and bottom mattresses and are made up with high-quality, hypoallergenic duvets and pillows. We had the mattresses tailor-made to achieve a perfect combination of hardness and softness

that would ensure our guests a good night's sleep in an unfamiliar bed from the first night.

All rooms have modem access and state-of-the-art radio and TV systems with video-on-demand, Internet and e-mail connections. Terracotta-coloured, genuine Italian tiles clad the floors and walls of our modern and distinctive bathrooms, all with bathtub, shower cabin and hairdryer.

Danish art by internationally renowned painters Peter Brandes and Mogens Andersen adorns the walls. Leather couches and armchairs are all Danish design. The TV in the rooms provides access to the Internet and e-mail and makes it possible to perform minor computer tasks via the wireless keyboard. Our guests have 19 free Danish and international TV channels and three radio channels. All rooms also have “video-on-demand” movies – movies that can be seen at the guest’s request – and various pay-per-view movies, which air at fixed times. You can also order wake-up calls via the TV and check your bill and messages. The TV also offers computer games for families with children.

All 366 deluxe rooms have an automatic mini bar system with beer, water, wine, spirits, snacks, chocolate, disposable camera, etc.

The hotel’s rooms offer a view of either the harbor; its newest neighbor, The Opera – Copenhagen, and the new Royal Playhouse.
