Academic Strategy
Objective / Students will distinguish the literal and nonliteral meanings of words and phrases by listening and singing songs about planets. / By completing a KWL Chart about Planets characteristics, students will demonstrate the acquired and desire knowledge about them. / By asking and answering detailed questions and refers to details, students will complete a Main Idea and Detail organizer / With the chosen Planet they conducted a research; students will create the cover of a book and share it with their classmates. / After conducting a research about a planet they are interested in, students will create a book including important facts about it.
Initial Activities / Play a planet song and students will sing along. / Brainstorm about Planets and characteristics. / Teacher show a model of the solar system. / Teacher will give the instructions to create the book cover. / Teacher gives instructions to create the foldable book, using the attachment: Layered Book Foldable.
Development Activities /
- Identify the characteristic of the planets presented in the song.
- Identify the rhythm and beat of the music to determine the meaning in the song.
As group discussion fill out the KWL Chart. / The teacher asks the students if all planets are the same and write down their responses.
They choose a planet to conduct a research project. / Students will begin creating their book cover following the teacher’s instructions. / Students will start creating the book, following instructions given.
