U6 League Rules

Bel Air Boys Soccer Rules (click to view) will apply except as amended below:

Players:Five players per side ( 4 players and a goalkeeper). The goalkeeper should be designated as the player with gloves or a specially marked jersey.

Field Size:32 to 35 yards long by 20 to 20 yards wide

Goal Size:6 to 9 feet wide, marked with flags or permanent goals and nets.

Markers:One cone at each corner of the field and two cones marking the mid-line.

Game Duration: For the first two weeks there will be fifteen minutes of practice time and two twenty minute halves with a 5 minute half-time. For the remainder of the season there will be two 25 minute halves with a 5-10 minute half-time. Each half will be played continuously with no stoppage of time. All play should be complete within one hour of your stop time.

Referee:A coach from each team acts as the referee.

Spectators:No one is allowed to instruct from behind the goals. All spectators should stay at least 6 feet away from the sidelines during the game. Any ‘out of control’ parent or spectator can be asked to leave, per a coach’s request.

Substitutions:Substitution can be made any time the ball goes out of bounds. There can be an unlimited number of goalie changes, but they should be done when the ball goes out of bounds or a goal is scored.

Penalties:Intentional fouls like tripping, pushing, and hand balls are called, with the opposing team gaining an indirect kick. No direct kicks for penalties. Slide tackling is not allowed. Off sides is not called.

Start of Play:The team listed first on the schedule is the team that kicks off at the start of the game.

Restarts:Ball going out on a sideline is returned by a throw-in. A player is given two attempts to complete an acceptable throw-in. If the first attempt is made improperly, instruct the player how to do it correctly and retry it.

Playing Time:ALL PLAYERS SHOULD BE GIVEN EQUAL PLAYING TIME. THIS IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE. ALL PLAYERS SHOULD BE GIVEN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY DIFFERENT POSITIONS. NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PLAY GOALKEEPER FOR MORE THAN HALF THE GAME.

Supplies:Each coach should arrange to have water available for his/her players. Ice should also be available. Snacks, fruit. Etc. are allowed during and after the game, but must be cleaned up by the players/parents/coaches.

Safety:Coaches should not leave the area until all players are picked up. Coaches are responsible for ensuring proper safety equipment.
