CPIM Reconfiguration and Basics of Supply Chain Management

The Certified in Production & Inventory Management (CPIM) certification program is currently being reorganized. You currently must pass five examinations to obtain a CPIM. The average length of time it takes is two years, which many people find discouraging.

APICS is reorganizing the CPIM program around two examinations. The first examination is equivalent to the current Basics of Supply Chain Management exam. The upper level exams – Master Planning of Resources, Detailed Scheduling & Planning, Execution & Control of Operations and Strategic Management of Resources – are being combined into one advanced exam. The result of this change is you will only need to pass two examinations to obtain a CPIM. This should allow participants to obtain a CPIM much faster than today.

The APICS South Florida Chapter is supporting this move by offering the Basics of Supply Chain Management Certification Review Course beginning in April. By taking this class and passing the Basics exam, it will count as passing the 1st of the two exams of the new CPIM configuration. We will offer the 2nd CPIM class – yet unnamed – when it is available in the Fall of 2017.
