CHIEF COUNSELOR

QUALIFICATIONS: At least 20 years of age and two years of college education preferred.

Three years of camp staff experience as a counselor and/or on a supervisory level.

Skills and experience in arts and crafts, recreation, pioneering, nature, and waterfront.

Understanding of the goals and objectives of the camp and its program.

Current certification from the American Red Cross for Advanced First Aid and/or CPR.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Program Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work closely with Program Director in organizing and administering a safe and meaningful program. Provide direction to counseling staff as it relates to schedules, policies, and camper needs.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participate in leadership and precamp orientation sessions. Assist in designing and leading counselor training sessions.

2. Teach and assist in teaching skills and concepts in program areas, campfires, rainy day activities, and special events.

3. Prepare camp for occupancy each session, making sure cabins are cleaned and equipped.

4. Oversee the health, safety, hygiene and cleanliness of campers and counselors. Assume the responsibility for the direct supervision of counselors.

5. Handle all difficult camper discipline problems that cannot be handled by counselors.

6. Give specific and explicit aid and supervision to counselors in planning and

implementing counselor directed activities.

7. Provide for the proper preparation and delivery of written evaluations of all campers and counselors.

8. Conduct a daily inspection of each cabin and prepare a scored report for competition awards (to include bathroom, camper living area, and counselors rooms).

9. Make sure curfew limits are being met by campers and counselors.

10. Assist with preregistration and registration procedures. Help make cabin assignments for campers and give any necessary input to office personnel.

11. Arrange relief coverage for counselors in the event they may need to be excused from responsibilities.

12. Supervise maintenance of all buildings, informing maintenance staff (through the office) of any problems or hazards.

13. Inform the Kitchen Supervisor (through Program Director) of all picnics, cookouts, or snacks planned by cabin groups.

14. Assist in the planning of daily morning devotions and Sunday worship services. Assist visiting program staff with coordination and implementation of their goals and objectives each week.

15. Formally evaluate counseling staff twice during the camping season. Submit a program report/evaluation at the end of the camp season covering program for each session. Give suggestions for areas of improvement in camp program.

16. Assist in planning and implementing a counselor-in-training program. Document progress of each participant with written evaluations and/or exercises.

17. Obtain copies of all ACA standards relating to campers, counselors, and cabins. Work with Program Director and Camp Director to see that these standards are met on a consistent basis.

18. Help each counselor under your supervision to adjust and grow in their relationship to God, to others, and to themselves in camp environment.

19. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Program Director and/or Camp Director.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION DIRECTOR

QUALIFICATIONS: Two year college education, with major in a related field.

Two year camp experience at a supervisory level (counseling or program).

Proven experience and expertise as a teacher (Sunday School, camp, school).

Understanding of the goals and objectives and spiritual emphasis of the camp and its program.

An excellent understanding of the Bible, and a personal commitment to Christ.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Camp Director

Program Director

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan and coordinate morning devotions, involving other staff members as much as possible.

2. Provide devotional materials to counselors for use in evening cabin devotions.

3. Coordinate and provide guidance in formation of staff Bible studies.

4. Assist in planning and implementing Sunday worship services.

5. Assist in follow-up of seekers (converts) from worship services.

6. Provide one-on-one counseling when necessary, to both camper and staff.

7. As part of the Program Staff, assume administrative duties on opening and closing days.

8. Help to plan total camp activities, and assist in the implementation of these whenever possible.

9. Conduct a Christian Education Program for campers, in conjunction with other program areas. This would be an afternoon activity, in which each camper would participate twice each week.

10. Make recommendations regarding the spiritual component of camping directly to Program Director.

11. Be fully involved in the overall operation of camp.

12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Program Director and/or Camp Director.
