Expression of Interest
Expressions of interest are invited from teachers interested in an opportunity relieving in the position of Home School Liaison Officer based at Ballina High School for Term 1 2017 with the possibility of an extension.
An expression of interest addressing the criteria, of no more than two pages in length should be submitted to Annette Ewing, at email by 5.00pm on Wednesday 8 February 2017.
Statement of duties
§ The Home School Liaison Program provides a supportive service to students, parents and schools to encourage the full participation of all students in education.
§ The Home School Liaison Program provides support to students enrolled in New South Wales government schools and children of compulsory school age who are not enrolled in a registered school or registered with the Board of Studies New South Wales for home schooling
§ Home School Liaison Officers function as part of the Educational Services team to support school practices that promote regular attendance. This support includes:
§ conducting periodic roll checks in schools and recommending improvement, where necessary
§ developing attendance improvement plans, in consultation with school personnel, to resolve attendance issues
§ participating in school programs supporting attendance
§ organising attendance meetings with parents, students and school staff
§ working with other agencies, e.g. NSW Police Force on joint anti-truancy operations
§ advising schools on additional strategies as an alternative to Home School Liaison Program support, or
§ compiling support documentation to ensure correct procedures are followed if legal resolution is required.
§ Home School Liaison officers are school based teaching service personnel.
Selection criteria
§ Teaching qualifications and recent school based experience.
§ Demonstrated experience in student welfare, including implementation of attendance policy and procedures
§ Demonstrated ability to liaise with schools, students, parents and agencies
§ Demonstrated ability to manage a range of computer applications, including databases and spread sheets
§ Demonstrated capacity to work as part of a team to implement attendance initiatives.
§ Demonstrated commitment to the values of public education.
§ Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education policies.
Your application must include the names of two referees. One of the referees listed must be the applicant’s current principal or supervisor for non-school-based staff. Expressions of interest must not exceed two A4 pages and require the signature of the applicant’s current principal or supervisor. Please also indicate that you have discussed this application with your principal. If you are currently attached to a school, and have her/ his approval for deployment, should your application be successful.
