Baby Blue Jay: Okay, you can show me how. I’ll try after you show me. I’ll be sure to try my best!
Narrator: Now the baby blue jay tries and tries to learn how to fly, but she still can’t.
Father Blue Jay: Keep trying baby blue jay. The more you try the better you’ll get.
Narrator: Over on the other side of the backyard, a cardinal family is having the same kind of problem.
Baby Cardinal: I tried and tried to fly. Who will help me?
Mother Cardinal: I will help you succeed. I will hold on to you. Flap your wings and then I’ll let go of you. Then try to fly and if you fall I’ll fly down and I’ll catch you.
Baby Cardinal: Okay mother. I will hold on tight and when you let go I will be brave.
Narrator: Baby bird is brave, but he falls to the ground with a thump anyway.
All birds: Thump!
Narrator: In flies Baltimore Oriole and he sees the baby birds in trouble.
Baltimore Oriole: I have something that can help the baby birds learn how to fly!
Other Birds: OOOHHH! What is it?
Baltimore Oriole: It’s called Flitter Fly!
Cardinals: What does it do?
Blue Jays: How does it work?
Baltimore Oriole: I’ll strap the baby bird up and if they start to fall, the Flitter Fly will make the baby bird go back up in the sky like a bungee.
Narrator: A few minutes later, the baby birds jumped off the branches and flapped their wings fast. Baby Blue Jay started to swoop down near the ground, but the Flitter Fly help to save her. Soon she was flying on her own. Baby Cardinal succeeded on his first attempt!
Everyone: The lesson of the story: Don’t be afraid to try new things!
