I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is for students with interest or talent in the area of woodworking. It presents basic knowledge of wood along with concepts related to both hand tools and machine work. Comprehension and application of basic design techniques, joint construction and finishing techniques are stressed.

II. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

A. To develop an understanding of the mathematical skills needed for basic woodworking.

B. To develop a basic understanding and skill in the use of both hand and power woodworking tools.

C. To develop good safety habits and practices in the wood laboratory.

D. To develop the ability to work cooperatively.

V. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:

A. Student progress will be on an individual basis. Instruction will be by group, class, or individual.

B. Evaluation of success will be based upon improvement of skills and methods, attendance, class work, the completion of a project of the student’s choice, and a final examination.
