Course Objective: To provide students with an opportunity to learn and apply skills relating to various agricultural mechanics fields
Course Descriptions: Per TEKS: §130.22. (Metal Technologies)
(a)General requirements. This course is recommended for students in Grades 10-12.
(b)Rapid advances in technology have created new career opportunities and demands in many industries. Welding provides the knowledge, skills, and technologies required for employment in metal technology systems. Students develop knowledge and skills related to this system and apply them to personal career development. This course supports integration of academic and technical knowledge and skills. Students will reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills to a variety of settings and problems. Knowledge about career opportunities, requirements, and expectations and the development of workplace skills prepare students for future success.
(c)Introduction. Course Expectations: Students are expected to actively participate in the learning process both in and out of the classroom. Knowledge gained in the classroom will be mastered before students will have an opportunity to apply that knowledge in the shop setting.
Attendance: The attendance policy will reflect the policy of Wimberley HS. Students should be in the classroom and ready to begin when the tardy bell rings. Students may be required to bring and wear appropriate clothing for certain outdoor activities.
Course Pre-requisite: Students should have completed Principles of Agriculture prior to entering Welding I.
Course Fees: There will be a $20.00 per student course fee for the Ag Mechanics Metal Technologies and also for the Ag Facilities Design and Fabrication classes. This will be used to purchase metal, consumables for the shop, and equipment for the students to operate while in the shop. The student will need to bring either cash, check, or pay dues on the district webstore to be able to participate in the shop activities for the class assignments. An additional $15 per student could be requested to assist with the cost of the OSHA 10 Hour certification that is required for Welding II.
Course Requirements: All students MUST have the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before they will be allowed to work in the shop.
- Closed toed shoes
- Long pants/Jeans
- Long sleeve shirt
- Welding Helmet
- Z87 Safety Glasses

Safety: All students must pass a MAJOR GRADE Safety Exam of a 100 before allowed into the shop. Any student caught violating the safety rules will be permanently removed from the shop.
Materials:The textbooks will be provided for the students. They will need to bring notebook, pencil, pen, paper, or something to take notes with.
Grading Criteria:
Major Grades (Tests, Projects, Notebook, SAEP)...... 60%
Daily Grades (Class work, Homework, Participation, Record book) ...... 40%
**Work not turned in by the due date will receive a maximum grade of a 70 if turned in one class period late. Work turned in two class periods late will receive a maximum grade of a 50, and late work will not be accepted after two class periods.
**Students are responsible for getting any make-up work missed.

Assignments/Quizzes/Tests: There will be various tests, quizzes, and
assignments throughout the year and the students will have plenty of notice before they are due. They will have larger metal projects that they will build out of materials that I will order but the students will have to pay for. The students will have to bring cash or a check to purchase the metal for their larger metal projects. If they choose not to purchase metal then they will be asked to work on projects for the school, chapter, or community.
Discipline: Students are expected to complete all assignments, participate in all required class activities, and observe all classroom and outdoor rules. Students who do not follow rules will face consequences. Disrespect of classroom or shop/outdoor materials, classmates, and staff will not be tolerated. Horseplay in shop will result in immediate removal and loss of shop privileges. All Wimberley HS rules and procedures will be enforced.
