Apprentice Network Engineer

The Role

Onwave is new and exciting addition to the UK communications market, Onwave are a small but rapidly growing business where all staff are given responsibility and rewarded for their contributions to the continued success of the business.

Onwave provides a unique and affordable blend of business solutions based around Multi-WAN and SD-WAN technologies to blue chip construction and utility business customers. The business focuses on increasing the bandwidth available to end customers by combining traditional fixed line solutions such as ADSL, with newer technology such as fibre, bonded ethernet, cellular and satellite. Our solutions mean Onwave deliver flexible and high-speed solutions anywhere throughout the UK and Europe.

This role covers many areas of Networking support including:

  • Developing skills to supporting the development and delivery of Operational Support to customer Network solutions.
  • Design and deliver – Learn to support networks through changes to configuration, system installations, defining, documenting and testing system performance.
  • Network Monitoring – Develop experience on maximising Network performance by monitoring, upgrading and resolving issues.
  • Network fault resolution – Support Network Operations to undertake and resolve faults, within a LAN/WAN, across different Network devices.
  • Remote troubleshooting – Learn to fault find and identify locale specific Network issues, including suggestion of possible solutions

This role will normally be office based but may involve visits to customer premises.

This Level 3 Apprenticeship is not only the equivalent to A levels but may also give you Engineering Council ‘letters after your name’ as an ICT Technician, which is the first rung on the ladder to being a Chartered Engineer. This is a unique opportunity to receive really robust training as you gain experience in this fast-moving industry.

Responsibilities

Working with the Network Operations Team and key partners:

  • Monitoring the uptime and availability of customer and onwave core network infrastructure
  • Responding and resolving issues that affect internal and external customer network availability
  • customer technical requirements capture for network design
  • CPE build, configuration and support including Routers/ Switches/ APs
  • Liaison with 3rd Party providers and vendors for RMA, Support faulting etc.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Motivated and self-directed individual that can operate within proper guidelines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a customer focussed approach.
  • Excellent communication skills with a customer focused approach.
  • Very strong willingness to learn new Networking technologies, troubleshooting and processes.
  • Good troubleshooting skills and methodologies.
  • Attitude to self-study
  • Attention to detail
  • Minimum of GCSE Maths and English grade C or above

Working hours - Mon-Fri 8.30am-5.00pm

Salary: £16,000 (Negotiable depending on experience)
