LESSON CONTENT
BELL WORK / Do you think a group, club, business, etc., can run effectively without a leader? Please explain why or why not.
KEY VOCABULARY / Autocratic style: gives orders to employees.
Bureaucratic style: manager seeks employee input before he or she makes the final decision.
Democratic style: manager shares the decision making with the employees.
Laissez-faire style: let it be or hands-off (the term is French for let it be or hands-off)

Distribute weekly bellwork sheet, vocab worksheet, Mmgtconcepts-handout1avocabKIM and note-taker, Mgmtconcepts-Handout2-notetaker.doc
Introduce today’s “objectives” to the class and have students fill in the missing terms on their note taker.
State: “There are four basic styles of management. These styles are often called management or leadership styles. They are autocratic, bureaucratic, democratic, and laissez-faire. Good managers will use a combination of these styles.”
Call on three non-volunteers and ask if they can guess as to what a democratic leader might be.
Using the PowerPoint, teach the vocab terms.
The teacher will ask students to fill in the missing words on their note-taker.
The teacher will instruct students to write one sentence for each term.
The teacher will introduce the group activity; What Leadership Style is the Right One? (students will be building a card structure using index cards, sticky dots, and paper clips)
·  Put the students into groups of 4 -5. The teacher will instruct the students to select a leader.
·  Explain the directions to the leaders – (each group will have a different leadership style – that leader needs to follow the directions on the paper).
·  Indicate the time and instruct each student to write the beginning time on their handout. Walk around the room and monitor as groups build their structure.
·  Indicate when time is up (15 minutes). Instruct students to fill out their handouts and be ready to give their answers if called upon. / The student will complete the bellwork activity.
The student will write the key terms and definitions on the terminology sheet
The students will be ready to answer if called upon.
Students fill in the missing words on their note-taker.
Students write one sentence for each term.
Students will listen as the teacher goes over the group activity.
Students will be placed into groups of 4-5.
Each group will pick a leader.
The leaders will all meet with the teacher and get their team assignment. DO NOT SHARE YOUR ASSIGNMENT WITH THE GROUP.
The groups will begin building their structure.
The groups will stop building their structure and fill out their handout. The students will be ready to answer when called upon to give their results
