Religious Preamble:
‘being of A Perfect and Sound Mind and Memory Thanks be given To God for the Same and Calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortall Life and that it is ordaind for all men once to Dye…first I Give and bequeath my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God that Gave it Hoping Through the merits of Jesus Christ To have free pardon and forgivness of my Sins and my Body I Recommend To the Earth To be Buried in a Christian Like and Decent Manner…And as for Such Worldly Goods and Estate as it has pleased almighty God to Bless me with in this mortall Life I Give Devise and Dispirs of the Same in manner and form following’
Bequests:
-  to ‘Daughter Joan the wife of Richard Doidge the Sum of five pounds per Year To be paid her Yearly and Every year During the Life of Elizabeth my Now wife To be paid her out of Lands by my Executer’
-  to ‘my well beloved wife’ Elizabeth, ‘all and Singular my Lands Tenements Hereditaments Goods wares ready money notes Bills Bonds Book Debts and all other Thing or things which in Law or Equity I Can Call mine’. Immediately after testator’s, decease the same to be bequeathed to daughter Joan, wife of Richard Doidge for her life and immediately after her decease ‘To the heirs of her Body’. If daughter Joan has no children then all is bequeathed to the heirs of Mary Bussell ‘living near Taunton’
‘I do hereby Nominate and appoint my trusty friend John Darke of Hatherleigh, Tanner To be trustee and Guardian for my wife and Daughter and the heirs of her Body’
Added after the end: ‘I Jno Kittoe do order & give ye Sum of five Pounds & five shillings to be delivered to Mr Mare of this Town ye minst[?]r for to buy a Pare of Candlestick In our Church at or to theyr Discetion, that is before ye Peue with my name In it’
