Summer 2015- Internship Opportunities
General Description
The Dixon is opening the application process for the Summer 2015 Internship Program. This program operates under the direction of the education department with placements available within other departments.
The museum internship will provide the student with an introduction to standard museum practice, providing professional experience and useful skills for future museum employment and further study to the field.
Internships at Dixon Gallery and Gardens are volunteer positions; Minimum hours per week vary for each position. Interns will be selected to work for six to eight weeks. Applicants must be at least juniors with sixty hours college credit.
Prospective candidates will first be interviewed by the Director of Education then by the supervising department head. Positions are limited. Interested candidates should submit the following information:
· Internship Application (available online)
· Resume
· A personal letter stating reasons for wanting to be an intern, how internship relates to career plans, what he/she believe they can contribute to the Dixon
· Specific information: dates available to work and number of hours per week. If doing this for university credit, supply requirements and advisor’s name.
· Two letters of recommendation – at least one from a college professor

Internship Descriptions
Education
Art-To-Grow Outreach
There is one position available
Responsibilities are:
Prepare materials for lessons, organize and restock art supplies. Visit school groups, libraries and festivals with the outreach instructor. Assist instructor in implementing art classes, team teach or teach lessons independently where appropriate. Create high quality visual aids and publicity mailing. Work with the coordinator to plan lessons for the following semester, produce lesson plans and demos. Contact schools and promote the Art to Grow program.
Experience in the following areas preferred:
Art education major
Teaching experience
Experience supervising children
Background in educational theory and practice
Museum Registration/Curatorial
There is one position available
Responsibilities are:
Assist Registrar and curatorial staff with updating the documentation of the permanent collections in a collection management database as well as hard file clean up. Assist with exhibition planning by providing general support including the creation of exhibition checklists and loan documents; and general departmental support.
Experience in the following areas preferred:
Art history major preferred
Proficiency in Windows Word and Excel
Well-honed research skills and knowledge of library systems
